Town Meeting with Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley
Northern Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley will hold a community meeting on Thursday, August 22 at 6 p.m. at the Choctaw County Courthouse. If you are unable to receive or have access to broadband internet or cellular service at your residence or business in Choctaw County please make plans to attend this meeting. Commissioner Presley is unveiling a new program called Zap the Gap to help bring high speed internet to North Mississippi. Annual Yard Sale
Annual Yard Sale to benefit Operation Christmas Child will be held on August 23-24 from 7 am till…We are at Fellowship Baptist Church at 2335 Old Trace Rd. in Mathiston. We will be inside in the Fellowship Hall so it will be cool. RAIN OR SHINE WE”LL BE THERE!! Many items from baby clothes to adult clothes, bedding…just lots of different things. Mt. Moriah Youth Concert Aug. 24
Mt. Moriah Youth Taking it to the Streets County Wide on Saturday, August 24 at 5 p.m. at the Mt. Moriah Life Center. Everyone is invited for a night of praise and worship. Food will be provided with no charge.
Annual Gospel Choir Day Aug. 25
Millsprings will host their Annual Gospel Choir Day at 3 p.m. on August 25. All choirs or soloists are invited to attend and render an A or B selection. Come help up lift up the name of Jesus in songs of praise.
Choir Workshop and Musical
The Peter’s Rock Temple Church Of God In Christ Music Department presents Choir Workshop & Musical “Praising With a Purpose” August 29-31. Workshop classes will be held Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m., followed by choir rehearsal. Registration $15. Final rehearsal on Saturday at 10 a.m. Musical will be Saturday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. Musical guests are Evangelist Barbara Jackson-Sago, International Vice President Church of God In Christ- Music Department, and Predestined of Louisville. Springhill School reunion Aug. 31
Springhill School reunion (Webster County) will be Aug. 31 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Springhill School building. The school operated from 1927-57. Stewart Fire Dept. will host a Gospel Singing on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. The groups that will be taking part in the singing are: Little River, Voices of Faith, Family Tradition and Heavenly Journey. Snack donations needed

Pre-packaged individual snacks that do not require refrigeration are being collected for the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital in Jackson as part of the “Adopt-A-Floor” program. Individual wrapped items such as crackers, granola, fruit bars, chips, pudding, spaghettio’s, snack cakes, fruit cups, pop-top soups or other pop-top canned items. These items can be dropped off at the Chamber of Commerce office in the J.P. Coleman Building on 55 East Quinn Street in Ackerman until September 15. Woodmen Senior Camp
The 2014 Woodmen of the World Senior camp for members age 55+ will be held Sept 30-Oct 2 at Lake Tiak-O’Khata in Louisville, MS. Come join us for some good food, games, fellowship and entertainment. Registration is $80 per member and includes all the meals and entertainment as well as the lodging in either a private hotel room or members can bring their RV and stay in the Lake’s beautiful RV campground. Non-member spouses of members and guests of members are also invited for the same fee. The registration deadline is September 13. North Mississippi Rural Legal Services Along With Local Community Action Agency Partner to Host Workshop on Civil Legal Matters Throughout the State
North Mississippi Rural Legal Services and Prairie Opportunity, Inc. Community Action Agency will sponsor an educational workshop discussing civil legal matters on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, 10 A. M, at the Choctaw County Public Library, 511 South Louisville Street, Ackerman, MS 39735. Topics to be discussed are Social Security benefits, birth certificate issues, Wills and Trusts preparations. We will also discuss the eligibility requirements for various benefit programs.
