The Ackerman Board of Aldermen hired Kevin Stark to serve as the next police chief for the Town of Ackerman.

The aldermen considered three candidates for the police chief position. All three candidates were present at the August 6 board meeting. Mayor Dick Cain asked the candidates to leave the room then asked the board for a motion to hire. Ward 2 Alderman Tommy Curtis made the motion to hire Kevin Stark with a second from Ward 1 Alderman Willie Miller. The board voted unanimous, with no discussion, to hire Stark with a yearly salary of $39,000 with a 6-month probation period and for him to relocate to Ackerman within 6 months.

After the vote the candidates were called back into the room and it was announced that Stark was hired.

After the meeting, Cain said, “We are very fortunate to have someone with the background Kevin has. He will be an asset to the Town of Ackerman.”

Stark is originally from Choctaw County and currently serves as the assistant police chief in Oxford. He will begin serving as Ackerman Police Chief in September.
