Expanding and improving healthcare is a priority of Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw. They are achieving this goal by adding more doctors and services.
Recently, they brought on Dr. Rene Cathey to the Pioneer Medical Clinic in Ackerman.
Cathey joins Dr. Terry O’Malia and Alisha Tenhet, CFNP, at the clinic.
Dr. Cathey is eager to see patients of all ages, infant to adult.
“I love treating the whole family. I like the rural area because you can see the whole family,” said Cathey.
Pioneer Medical Clinic is a match for Cathey because he can see patients in the clinic, and then when necessary, treat them in the hospital.
“You can easily be treated here (clinic) and the hospital. I want to create that medical environment,” said Cathey.
He not only sees patients at the clinic and hospital, but also works in the Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw Emergency Room and sees patients at the Choctaw County Nursing Center.
“A little bit of everything, inpatient and outpatient,” said Cathey, about working at the clinic in Choctaw County.
Dr. Cathey is originally from Houston, Texas and has been practicing medicine for 12 years. He began in Louisville then went to Magee. There he met his wife, Rene and her two children, Macey Busby, 12 years old, and Bryce Busby, 10 years old.
Cathey and his family moved to Choctaw County in January 2012 where he worked in the ER in Eupora and Winona.
Rene Hood Cathey is from Choctaw County originally. Rene is a nurse practitioner but is not currently working. She is enjoying being at home with their daughter, Mary Jane, four months old, along with Macey and Bryce.
The Cathey family is excited to become a part of the Choctaw County community.
