A new era is has begun in Choctaw County with the creation of the Choctaw County High School. This school year will be the first for CCHS as students, staff and parents come together from Ackerman and Weir to form one high school.
Shane Burton, CCHS, principal, says this is a “transition year as we bring together two bodies of students and faculty.
“We are teaching Choctaw County kids,” said Burton.
He said there have been a lot of changes at the high school that the School Board, has approved. Burton asks for everyone to be patient as these changes continue to take place.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to be here. I’m a product of this county and this school. I look forward to leading this school and faculty in this new era,” said Burton.
With school beginning on August 8, Burton reminds parents that their child must be registered at the high school.
“Any student who has not registered needs to come by the high school office and see the counselor before schools begins,” said Burton.
He also said everyone needs to be aware of new school times for the 2013-2014 school year. The high school begins drop off at 7:30 a.m. with the tardy bell ringing at 7:57 a.m. and classes’ start at 8 a.m. Bus dismissal will be at 2:40 p.m. with car rider dismissal at 2:45 p.m.
The Choctaw County High School Open House will be Tuesday, August 6 from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Burton said any 7th grade students and their parents, or new parents, that would like to meet him, discuss assignments and procedures or ask questions should come to the Ty Cobb auditorium at 6 p.m.
