The Lucky 13 4-H Club selling chances

The Lucky 13 4-H Club is selling chances on gift cards as a fundraiser. They have nine gift cards from area businesses and restaurants. Chances are $1 each or 6 for $5 and may be purchased at the Choctaw County Extension Office or from a club member. Money raised will help support club activities, contest fees and meeting supplies. Farmers’ Market

The Choctaw County Farmers’ Market will be held every Friday in July from 8 am until at the corner of Main and Commerce Streets in Ackerman.  Free recipes and other items will be given out. There is no vendor fee. For more information or vendor application, contact the Choctaw County Extension Office in the Courthouse Annex or call 285-6337.

 

Cooking Workshops for youth July 18

This is the second of three cooking workshops for youth that will be held this summer at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Ole’ beans Ole’ is for youth 6-9 years of age. It will be held July 18 from 10-11 am at the Choctaw County Extension Office. We will make Ole’ frijoles (bean dip), discuss different beans and how they are used, bean bag toss, microwave safety & more. Space is limited. To pre-register, call 285-6337.

 

Crazy About Crape myrtles July 18

Dr. Wayne Porter will present a program on growing and pruning crape myrtles as well as insect and disease control. It will be held Thursday, July 18 from 12:00-1:00pm by interactive video at the Choctaw County Extension Office – Courthouse Annex in Ackerman. The public is invited to attend this free program.  Feel free to bring your lunch.

 

Worship service

July 19-20

A Worship service will be held by Br. Richard Fowler, on July 19-20 6:30 p.m. in the High School Auditorium in Vaiden. Danita Douglas of Ackerman will be singing and other local talent of Vaiden. Danita Douglas was told earlier this year by a professional studio owner, engineer, while recording “You sound like the late Country artist Kitty Wells.” Everyone come out for a good time in the Lord.

 

Old Lebanon Campmeeting

July 19-24

The annual Campmeeting at Old Lebanon Presbyterian Church will begin Friday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will continue through Wednesday, July 24, with services each day at 7 a.m., 11 a.m., and 7:30 p.m. The 7 a.m. devotional services will be led by tenters on the campground. The speaker for the 11 a. m. and 7:30 p.m. services will be Dr. Dominic Aquila, a former Old Lebanon pastor and president of New Geneva Theological Seminary in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Pastor Jim Codling will lead the afternoon children activities. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

 

Revival at Salem Independent Methodist Church

July 21-24

Revival Services will be held at Salem Independent Methodist Church on Sunday, July 21-24. Sunday Services will begin at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday – Wednesday services will begin at 7 p.m.

Bro Danny Cochran from Singleton Independent Methodist Church will be our Revival Evangelist.

Phanell Upchurch and Becky Orr will be in charge of the music. Bro. Jim Reed, our pastor, and the entire church congregation invite you to come and be blessed with good preaching from God’s word, good gospel singing and Christian fellowship.

 

All About Bees

July 25

Dr. Jeff Harris, Associate Extension/Research Professor, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology and Plant Pathology, will share information on bees and beekeeping including an overview of bees, problems with bees and other pollinators, and the economic value of bees to agriculture. It will be held Thursday, July 25 from 12:00-1:00pm by interactive video at the Choctaw County Extension Office – Courthouse Annex in Ackerman. Cooking Workshops for youth July 25

This is the last of three cooking workshops for youth that will be held this summer at the Choctaw County Extension Office. The Incredible Edible 5 food groups are for youth 6-9 years of age. It will be held July 25 from 10-11:00 am at the Choctaw County Extension Office.  We will make learn how to build a healthy plate, prepare an incredible edible 4 food-group parfait and do fun activities. Kinfolk Family Reunion July 25

South Union Campmeeting

July 26-31

Pastor Ed Saunders and the members of South Union United Methodist Church invite you to the 141st Campmeeting at South Union Campground beginning Friday evening, July 26 through Wednesday, July 31. The Camp Meeting preacher is Rev. George Buell with Buddy and Carol Smith serving as song leaders and Janees Garey as the pianist. There are 4 worship services each day – 8 & 11 am and 3 & 7 pm. Back to School Field Day

August 3

The 5th Annual Back to School Field Day will be held on August 3 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Tom Glasgow Park in Ackerman. All school-aged children along with their parents are invited to come out and enjoy unlimited fun and lots of games and activities. Parents, make sure an adult is with your child to sign the consent form to participate. Free school supplies, books and food will be given away. NAACP meeting

August 19

The NAACP of Choctaw County will meet August 19 at 6 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Church in Ackerman. New members are welcome. The NAACP meets the third Monday of every month.

 

Pastor and Wife Appreciation program set

The Mt. Pisgah M. B. Church will hold an Appreciation for their pastor and wife (Rev. Donald and Dr. Nola Bryant) on Sunday, July 21, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.

The guest speaker for the event is Pastor Wayne Benn of Oak Grove M.B. Church of Preston, MS. The public is invited and welcome to attend.

 

Hisaw reunion July 20
