Farmer’s Market

July 12

The Choctaw County Farmers Market will be held Friday, July 12 beginning at 8 am at the corner of Main and Commerce Streets in Ackerman. Free items to the first 50 people! Free recipes! Vendors wanting to sell fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, plants or flowers should contact the Choctaw County Extension Office (285-6337) for a vendor application.

Mayo Family Reunion July 13

Descendants of Stephen D. Mayo and Fanny Joiner Mayo are invited to a reunion of any family members on July 13 at Lake Tiak O’Khata in Louisville. This includes Nance, Chancellor, Whitten, Mitchell, Shaw, Wiley and many other families. Please notify Winston Hayes by July 10 at 662-779-2124 if you plan to attend.

Singing/Revival July 13

Maben Church of God is having a singing on July 13 at 7 p.m. Amazing Grace of Amory will perform. The youth will be selling water and drinks. Revival with Pastor James Wells is July 14-16 at 7 p.m.

Joyful Noise

concert July 14

The Joyful Noise Quartet of Ackerman will be in concert at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church on Sunday, July 14 at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the concert. The church is located at Bradley. Just turn left at the sign. Everyone is invited to attend.

NAACP meeting

July 15

The NAACP of Choctaw County will meet April 15 at 6 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Church in Ackerman. New members are welcome. The NAACP meets the third Monday of every month.

Public Hearing July 18

Prairie Opportunity, Inc. Community Action Agency will conduct a public hearing on July 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Choctaw Public Library, 511 Louisville Street, Ackerman, MS. Cooking Workshops for youth July 18

This is the second of three cooking workshops for youth that will be held this summer at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Ole’ beans Ole’ is for youth 6-9 years of age. It will be held July 18 from 10-11 am at the Choctaw County Extension Office. We will make Ole’ frijoles (bean dip), discuss different beans and how they are used, bean bag toss, microwave safety & more. July 19 -24

The annual Campmeeting at Old Lebanon Presbyterian Church will begin Friday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will continue through Wednesday, July 24, with services each day at 7 a.m., 11 a.m., and 7:30 p.m. The 7 a.m. devotional services will be led by tenters on the campground. The speaker for the 11 a. m. and 7:30 p.m. services will be Dr. Dominic Aquila, a former Old Lebanon pastor and president of New Geneva Theological Seminary in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Pastor Jim Codling will lead the afternoon children activities. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Revival July 21-24

Revival Services will be held at Salem Independent Methodist Church on Sunday, July 21-24. Sunday Services will begin at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday – Wednesday services will begin at 7 p.m.

Bro Danny Cochran from Singleton Independent Methodist Church will be our Revival Evangelist.

Phanell Upchurch and Becky Orr will be in charge of the music. Bro. Jim Reed, our pastor, and the entire church congregation invite you to come and be blessed with good preaching from God’s word, good gospel singing and Christian fellowship.

Cooking Workshops for youth July 25

This is the last of three cooking workshops for youth that will be held this summer at the Choctaw County Extension Office. The Incredible Edible 5 food groups are for youth 6-9 years of age. It will be held July 25 from 10-11:00 am at the Choctaw County Extension Office.  We will make learn how to build a healthy plate, prepare an incredible edible 4 food-group parfait and do fun activities. Kinfolk Family Reunion July 25

Kinfolk Family Reunion will be in Detroit, MI July 26-28. Our bus will leave Ackerman on Thursday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. and return Sunday, July 28. Come and ride and enjoy the fun with us. For more information call Ernestine Kennedy 662-285-3088 or 662-285-8894.

VFW Post 5569 to meet July 13

VFW Post 5569 will meet at Cagle’s Corner, in Ackerman, on Saturday, July 13 at 0930 hours. Breakfast is paid for by the post. VFW Post 5569 is a post composed of “Christian” combat veterans. “All” combat veterans are invited to attend the meeting and join Post 5569. VFW Post 5569 meets on the second Saturday of each month, at 0930 hours; at Cagle’s Corner.
