Ackerman woman killed in 2-car crash

From Press, Staff Reports

An Ackerman woman was killed June 15 in a two-car accident on U.S. 82 in Webster County.

The wreck happened about 3 miles west of Mathiston around 7:20 a.m., according to Cpl. Criss Turnipseed of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop G and Webster County 911 reports.

Turnipseed said Elizabeth Perry, 75, of Ackerman was traveling west in a 1998 white Ford pickup when the accident occurred. He said Perry was attempting to make a right turn when she was hit in the rear by a 2004 white Nissan Titan. James Cork, 58, of Mathiston was driving the Titan.

Oktibbeha County Deputy Coroner Billy Miller pronounced Perry dead at the scene. Miller responded because Webster County Coroner Steve Wells was unavailable.

In addition to the MHP, the Mathiston Fire Department and NMMC-Eupora EMS responded to the accident scene. Cork was transported to OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville for non-life-threatening injuries.

Turnipseed said the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Wells said Perry’s body was sent to Jackson for an autopsy. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora was handling arrangements.
