The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon cutting for the Simpson Water Association on Thursday, June 13 at 4 p.m.
The Simpson Water Association has a new office at 9820 MS Hwy. 413 in Weir for their two employees. The water association is made of up a governing board of five directors from the water association’s service area.
Ron Bennett, serves as president of the Simpson Water Association and Nina Mills is the vice-president. The other three board members are Hughie Lollar, Jimmie Sue Lollar and Jackie Warren. The Simpson Water Association serves 530 customers in Choctaw County with over 300 miles of line.
The purpose of the Simpson Water Association is to provide quality and safe water to its customers at a reasonable rate today and in the future. The water association has made many technological improvements since its formation in October 1967.
The Simpson Water Association has implemented a new computer tracking system called SCADA. This system measures the usage and chlorination of the water. The office can now alert a customer when there is a spike in water usage at their residence through the SCADA system.
The water association is in the process of installing new digital meters. The digital meter allows for all meters within a quarter mile to be read at one time. An individual does not have to manually check each meter to measure water usage. There are currently 200 digital water meters in the Simpson Water Association.
The Simpson Water Association is also in the process of making improvements to water their lines and fire hydrants. The water association is working toward having GPS coordinates on all fire hydrants and eventually all meters to help fire fighters quickly find a source of water to refill in the instance of a fire or natural disaster. The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting for the new Simpson Water Association office on Thursday, June 13 at 4 p.m. Board members and employees will give attendees a tour of the facility and explain the technology used to supply water to its 530 customers.
