Farmers’ Market

The Choctaw County Farmers’ Market was scheduled to be held every Friday in June and July. Due to weather conditions that delayed planting, the market will not be held in June.

Driver Ed. Registration

Classes will be July 8-July 26, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., daily. Cost $150. Students receive ½ credit. Students are responsible for obtaining driving permit or drivers license before assigned driving time. Contact Lynn Scribner at the school 285-4101 to sign up. Class is limited to the first 20 to sign up.

Registration for Choctaw County High School

June 11-13

The Choctaw County School District will hold a pre-registration at Choctaw County High School (currently Ackerman High School) June 11-13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for all students who will enter 7th through 12th grade in the 2013-2014 school year. This registration process is for any Choctaw County students wishing to register at Choctaw County High School. All students who attended Ackerman High School and those who will be transferring from Ackerman Elementary School to the 7th grade have completed this registration process and do not need to register again. If you have any questions concerning this registration process, please feel free to call the high school at 662-285-4101.

Simpson Water Association, Ribbon Cutting celebration to finalize opening of new office, June 13 at 9820 MS HWY 413, from 5 PM until 7 PM. Come celebrate with snacks and refreshment.

Cooking Workshops for youth June 17

Three cooking workshop for youth will be held this summer at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Cowboy Kids in the Kitchen is for youth 10-12 years of age. It will be held June 17 from 10 am until 11 am at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Wear your cowboy hats & bandanas and join us for fun in the kitchen. Space is limited. To pre-register, call 285-6337.

NAACP meeting

June 17

The NAACP of Choctaw County will meet April 15 at 6 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Church in Ackerman. New members are welcome. The NAACP meets the third Monday of every month.

VBS at Fellowship Baptist June 17-20

Fellowship Baptist Church, 2335 Old Trace Road, will host Vacation Bible School, in our Fellowship Hall, June 17-20 from 6 PM till 8 PM. Friday, June 21 will be Family Night from 7 PM till 8 PM. Our theme this year is “Jungle Jaunt”. For more info call 662-263-4035. VBS Kickoff and Pre-registration will be held at Mathiston City Park on Saturday, June 15, from 10 AM till Noon. There will be games and refreshments for the kids.

VBS at FC Presbyterian Church June 18-21

VBS at French Camp Presbyterian Church will be June 18-21, 9 am-11:30 am for K-6 grade. This year’s theme is Kingdom Chronicles: Standing Strong in the Battle for Truth published by Answers in Genesis. At Kingdom Chronicles, your brave knights and fair maidens will learn to put on a piece of God’s armor each day. Revival

June 21-23

Crape Creek Baptist Church invites everyone to Revival on June 21-23 with Evangelist Roy Hawkins. Friday and Saturday Services -7 PM and Sunday 11 AM followed by Dinner on the Grounds.

Entomology Camp for youth June 22

A 4-H Entomology camp will be held Saturday, June 22 from 8 am until noon at the Choctaw County Extension Office.  We will look at insects under a microscope, identify them and look at insect collections.  This free workshop is for youth ages 8-12 years of age. Space is limited to 10 youth. To pre-register, call 285-6337. Workshop will be conducted by Jenny Bibb, MSU Entomology Club.

Benefit Cook-Out/Gospel Singing

June 22

Bethsalem Male Chorus will be hosting a Benefit Cook-Out/Gospel Singing program for Deacon George Cork. The Cook-Out will begin at noon at the Bethsalem M.B. Church and will go over into the singing program which will begin at 6 p.m. Our guest groups appearing on this night will be: Noxubee County Mass Choir – Shuqualak, James Spann and the Spann Bros. – Pheba, True Magnifiers – Ackerman, Tim Frierson and Committed – West Point and The Mighty Gospel Warriors – Bruce.

VBS at Ackerman Baptist June 24-28

Grab your tickets and head on over to Colossal Coaster World™! Come join us as we experience the thrill and excitement of a day at the park! As we explore the park, kids will enter Worship Rally at the Main Gate and make their first stop at Coaster Alley for Bible study. While touring the park, kids will also visit the Cotton Candy Cafe for snacks, the Adrenaline Zone for recreation, Tune Town for music, and the Scissors and Stuff Emporium for crafts. It’s Vacation Bible School at Ackerman Baptist Church like you’ve never experienced before! Children age four through 6th grade are admitted free from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. June 24-28. This is the second of three cooking workshops for youth that will be held this summer at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Ole’ beans Ole’ is for youth 6-9 years of age. It will be held July 18 from 10-11 am at the Choctaw County Extension Office. We will make Ole’ frijoles (bean dip), discuss different beans and how they are used, bean bag toss, microwave safety & more. This is the last of three cooking workshops for youth that will be held this summer at the Choctaw County Extension Office. The Incredible Edible 5 food groups are for youth 6-9 years of age. It will be held July 25 from 10-11:00 am at the Choctaw County Extension Office.  We will make learn how to build a healthy plate, prepare an incredible edible 4 food-group parfait and do fun activities. Kinfolk Family Reunion July 25

“Dig into Reading” this summer at the Choctaw County Library in Ackerman for the annual Summer Reading Program on every Tuesday of June from 2 p.m.-3:30 p.m. Grades Pre-Kindergarten to 6th grade are encouraged to attend.
