Driver Ed.


Classes will be July 8-July 26, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., daily. Cost $150. Students receive ½ credit. Students are responsible for obtaining driving permit or drivers license before assigned driving time. Contact Lynn Scribner at the school 285-4101 to sign up. Class is limited to the first 20 to sign up.


June 3-7

Ackerman United Methodist Church invites children Pre-Kindergarten to 6th grade to Vacation Bible School from June 3-7 from 8:30 a.m.-noon to enjoy “Everywhere Fun Fair.”

Commencement Ceremony will be June 9 at 5 pm in the Sanctuary with a BBQ dinner to follow. Tickets can be purchased for the dinner during the week of VBS or that night. Van transportation will be provided. Please call 662-722-0166 if you need a ride!

Baptist June 3 – 7

Grab your tickets and head on over to Colossal Coaster World™! Come join us as we experience the thrill and excitement of a day at the park! As we explore the park, kids will enter Worship Rally at the Main Gate and make their first stop at Coaster Alley for Bible study. While touring the park, kids will also visit the Cotton Candy Cafe for snacks, the Adrenaline Zone for recreation, Tune Town for music, and the Scissors and Stuff Emporium for crafts. It’s Vacation Bible School at Chester Baptist Church like you’ve never experienced before! Children age three through grade six are admitted free from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. June 3 – 7. Summer Reading

Program June 11

June is the month to “Dig into Reading” sponsored by the Weir Library and the Town of Weir.  The first program will be held on Tuesday, June 11 at 2 pm in the Donnie Crowder Community Center( formerly Crowder’s Drugs).  Bring your children ,Pre-K through sixth grade, to enjoy the story and  fun!  For more information call the Weir Library at 547-6747.  This summer reading program is an outreach of Turning the Tide on Poverty.

Historical Highlight Luncheon June 11

This month’s Historical Highlight Luncheon will feature Mr. Bill Adams, former French Camp Academy Business Administrator and Executive V.P. of Operations and the current Director of Planned Giving.  Historical Highlight Luncheons are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month at French Camp Presbyterian Church, featuring a speaker who shares some aspect of French Camp’s history and a delicious, home-cooked meal for a $2 donation.  he public is invited. RSVP by calling 547-6520 (leave a message) or email The next Historical Highlight Luncheon will be July 9; Glen Blaine, former FCA student and the current Ackerman Elementary Principal will be the speaker.

Registration for CCHS June 11-13

The Choctaw County School District will hold a pre-registration at Choctaw County High School (currently Ackerman High School) June 11-13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for all students who will enter 7th through 12th grade in the 2013-2014 school year. This registration process is for any Choctaw County students wishing to register at Choctaw County High School. All students who attended Ackerman High School and those who will be transferring from Ackerman Elementary School to the 7th grade have completed this registration process and do not need to register again. If you have any questions concerning this registration process, please feel free to call the high school at 662-285-4101.

Simpson WA Ribbon Cutting June 13

Simpson Water Association, Ribbon Cutting celebration to finalize opening of new office, June 13 at 9820 MS HWY 413, from 5 PM until 7 PM. Come celebrate with snacks and refreshment.

NAACP meeting

June 17

The NAACP of Choctaw County will meet April 15 at 6 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Church in Ackerman. New members are welcome. The NAACP meets the third Monday of every month.

VBS at FC Presbyterian June 18-21

VBS at French Camp Presbyterian Church will be June 18-21, 9 am-11:30 am for K-6 grade. This year’s theme is Kingdom Chronicles: Standing Strong in the Battle for Truth published by Answers in Genesis. At Kingdom Chronicles, your brave knights and fair maidens will learn to put on a piece of God’s armor each day. Reunion July 25

French Camp Shady Grove will be celebrating Inspirational Choir Anniversary on Saturday June 8 at 6:00 pm. The will be the Kasier Singers of Yazoo City and many more. Everyone is welcome to attend.

First Unity U.M.

VBS and Youth Revival June 3-7

First Unity UMC in Weir invites everyone to the “Hip Hop for Jesus! VBS”. Bible classes, games, arts and crafts, music, fun for all age groups and adults! June 3 to 7, 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. each day! You are also invited to our annual Youth Revival beginning Monday June 10 to 12, 7 p.m. nightly. The guest evangelist is Minister Timothy Bourne from Charity Full Gospel Baptist Church in Crawford.

Ray Reunion

June 9

The annual Ray Reunion will be held at the Chester Community Center on Sunday, June 9, 2013. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Bring a covered dish of your favorite food and enjoy the day with everyone.

VBS at Fellowship Baptist June 17-20

Fellowship Baptist Church, 2335 Old Trace Road will host Vacation Bible School, in our Fellowship Hall, June 17-20 from 6 PM till 8 PM. Friday, June 21 will be Family Night from 7 PM till 8 PM. Crape Creek Baptist Church invites everyone to Revival on June 21-23 with Evangelist Roy Hawkins. Friday and Saturday Services -7 PM and Sunday 11 AM followed by Dinner on the Grounds.

Weir marker event planned

Join the descendants of Colonel John Weir at the dedication of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Historical Marker, recently installed at the historic home of John Weir, at 102 Ann Street, Weir. The dedication ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2013.

John Weir and his brother James were the founders of the community of Weir.

John Weir donated land for the first churches in town. The home of Col. Weir is the oldest building in Weir and is on the National Register of Historic Places. This building is one of only a handful of buildings or places on the Register from Choctaw County.
