Insects Affecting People Outdoors
Insects Affecting People Outdoors will be presented by Dr. Jerome Goddard, Associate Extension Professor, Medical & Veterinary Entomologist, May 30 from 12:00-1:00pm at the Choctaw County Extension Office by interactive video. Insects and other arthropods may negatively affect people’s health as they work or play outdoors. These pests include ticks, mosquitoes, fleas, and various biting flies. This presentation discusses what these pests are, how to recognize them, and various ways to protect yourself while outdoors this summer. Everyone is invited to attend. There is no charge. Reunion June 2
It is time once again for the annual Reform school reunion. It is scheduled to be held at the Sherwood Community Center on Sunday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Community Center is located on Highway 15 approximately 4 miles south of Mathiston and 13 miles north of Ackerman. Come join your former classmates and friends for a day of reminiscing and please bring any yearbooks, stories or anything that you would like to share. Lunch will be potluck. The farmers’ market will kick off June 1 at JuneFest. Then, it will be held every Friday in June & July from 3-7 pm. The vendor fee for JuneFest is $15. Farm Bureau has offered to pay the vendor fee for the first 10 vendors to register! After JuneFest, there is no vendor fee. Registration for Choctaw County High School
The Choctaw County School District will hold a pre-registration at Choctaw County High School (currently Ackerman High School) June 11-13 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for all students who will enter 7th through 12th grade in the 2013-2014 school year. This registration process is for any Choctaw County students wishing to register at Choctaw County High School. All students who attended Ackerman High School and those who will be transferring from Ackerman Elementary School to the 7th grade have completed this registration process and do not need to register again. The NAACP of Choctaw County will meet April 15 at 6 p.m. at Mt. Hermon Church in Ackerman. New members are welcome. The NAACP meets the third Monday of every month.
