Celebration planned for Red Hills Operations generating facility

On Wednesday, May 15, the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce will
host a celebration along with PurEnergy and Red Hills Operations, a
subsidiary of the Southern Company, to welcome them to Choctaw
County. This event is open to the public and will begin at 4 p.m. at
the Choctaw County Community Center at 898 College Street in Ackerman.
PurEnergy is the new lessee of the lignite generating facility at the
Red Hills Ecoplex.
They are an asset management company in the energy industry.
PurEnergy is recognized for turning around troubled energy assets and
enhancing solid performing assets.
Red Hills Operations, a subsidiary of Southern Company, has a
contract to operate and maintain the Red Hills facility. The
Southern Company is based in Atlanta, Georgia, and serves 4.4 million
customers and has nearly 46,000 megawatts of generating capacity.
Southern Company owns electric utilities in four states and a growing
competitive generation company, as well as, fiber optics and wireless
communications.
All involved parties will be working together to improve the overall
functionality and efficiency of the facility. Red Hills Operations
projects to operate the facility with more full time staff than the
previous owner.
There will be a program presented to all attendees about the
companies operating at the Red Hills facility and introduction of the
new plant manager.
