Choctaw County Medical Foundation meeting
All Choctaw County Medical Foundation members, and anyone interested

AHS Academic Awards Day
The Ackerman High School Academic Awards Day programs will be held in
the Ty Cobb Complex auditorium on Friday, May 3, 2013. The junior
high program will begin at 8 a.m. The high school program will begin
at 9 a.m.
Fundraiser trail ride upcoming
The Webster Search and Rescue Team will be having a fundraiser trail
ride on May 3-5 on Mount Vernon Road in Webster County. Cost for the
weekend will be $20/adults, $10/kids (12 and under). Day riders can
come and enjoy the ride only on Saturday for $10/adults, $5/kids (12
and under). Breakfast and supper will be provided on Saturday (day
riders can enjoy the meals for an extra $5). The weekend stay will be
primitive camping/no hookups. Saturday night entertainment will be

Mathiston May 4
The Civic League of Mathiston is putting together their first annual
MayFest to be held on Saturday, May 4 starting at 9 AM. We will have
vendors, food, fun for the children, live entertainment and the fun
goes on into the night with a silent auction, raffle giveaway and
karaoke. Vendor spots are only $10 and location is on a first come,
first serve basis. Also, all church, praise and worship and drama
teams are invited to perform as well as soloists and
groups. A PA system will be provided for the entertainment. For more

Bowling Family Concert May 5
The Bowling Family will be in concert on Sunday night, May 5 at 6 pm
at the Ackerman Church of God. The church is located at 8162 Highway
12 West, Ackerman, MS 39735. There is no admission charge but a love

4-H Pet Club
The 4-H Pet Club will meet Monday, May 6 at 6 pm in the 4-H building
(former Prairie Opportunity Building across from the Library) in
Ackerman. All youth ages 8-18 are invited to attend. Dr. Rita Morris
will work with youth on dog training, using pets from the shelter.

Club to support the Distinguished Young Woman Program. A short sleeve

Mother’s Day Bake Sale May 10
Grace Christian School will have a Mother’s Day Bake Sale on Friday,
May 10 at 8:30 a.m. until they are sold out. The bake sale will be in
front of the Winston County Courthouse.
The VFW will meet Saturday, May 11 at 9:30 a.m. at Cagle’s Corner in
Bluegrass May 11
The French Camp Historic District will host “An Afternoon of
Bluegrass” on Saturday, May 11 at 1 p.m. as part of the Pioneer Day
festivities. Featured will be local bluegrass acts including Pilgrim
Family Bluegrass, The Russell Burton Family, and Uncle Pug’s
Bluegrass Band. The concert will be held in the lawn beside the
Council House Café in French Camp. Enjoy sitting under the tent or
bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. Admission is free. For more

A benefit for Shirley Lucas Farmer of Eupora, who is suffering from
brain cancer, will be May 11 at the Sherwood Community Center on
Highway 15. A bake sale and auction begin at 5 p.m. Kay Bain and
Saving Grace will perform beginning at 7 p.m. Auction items will
include living room suits, house arrangements and a ladies diamond
ring. Tickets, which are $2 each, are available at Pap’s Place,
Forget Me Not Florist and Carquest in Ackerman. The Lucas Reunion
will be held the same day and Farmer will be there from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Historical Highlight Luncheon May 14
The Historical Highlight Luncheon will be held Tuesday May 14 at 12
noon at French Camp Presbyterian Church. The speaker will be 1975 FCA
graduate and former staff member, Nadine Ramsey. Nadine held a
variety of jobs from 1978 – 2003. Nadine will be talking about the
influence the town of French Camp and French Camp Academy had on her
life. The title of her talk will be “Because HE Built It, They Will
Historical Highlight Luncheons are held the 2nd Tuesday of each
month, featuring a speaker who shares some aspect of French Camp’s
history and a delicious, home-cooked meal for a $2 donation. The

The NAACP of Choctaw County will meet April 15 at 6 p.m. at Mt.
Hermon Church in Ackerman. New members are welcome. The NAACP meets
the third Monday of every month.
Dedication at Simpson Cemetery
Dedication of new tombstones at the Simpson Cemetery on June 2 at 2

The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications
from food and arts and crafts vendors for JuneFest. JuneFest will be
held Saturday, June 1st in downtown Ackerman. To request an

Choctaw County Farmers’ Market
The farmers’ market will kick off June 1 at JuneFest. Then, it will
be held every Friday in June & July from 3-7 pm. The vendor fee for
JuneFest is $15. Farm Bureau has offered to pay the vendor fee for
the first 10 vendors to register! After JuneFest, there is no vendor
fee. The farmers’ market is part of the MSU Extension Service-
Choctaw County’s Turning the Tide on Poverty Project. Applications
