Calendar of Events

Attention All Ackerman High School Graduates:
If you graduated between the years of 2001-2007, we still have your
cumulative folders. These folders include such information as state
test scores, copies of birth certificates, and copies of immunization
reports. The cumulative folders will be available until May 1. After
this date, we will destroy these records. If you wish to pick up your
cumulative folder, please come by Ackerman High School between 7:30
a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Kids Fishing Rodeo at Choctaw Lake
April 20
All children ages 15 and under are invited to fish on Saturday, April
20 at Choctaw Lake. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the
pavilion in the campground area with the opening ceremony at 8:45
a.m. A parent/guardian must attend with each child to sign a release
waiver. Fishing will be from 9 – 11 a.m. with Farm Bureau providing
lunch for the kids afterwards. Volunteers are needed for the day of
the event. Follow the signs when entering Choctaw Lake. Call the
Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce to volunteer or for more

Reform Baseball Park Can Collection
April 20
Bring your cans (not crushed) to the Reform Ball Park from 9 a.m.-11
a.m. to help raise funds to create a walking track around the park.

Weir School Alumni Day
Registration deadline April 20
The annual Weir School Alumni Day will be held on April 27 at Weir
Attendance Center. The registration will begin at 10 a.m. and the
alumni meeting will begin at 10:45 a.m. Lunch reservations are
available until April 20. All former students, teachers,
administrators, and friends are invited to attend. Classes can
reserve a room for group meetings. For more information or to make a

Remember of Tornado fellowship services
April 21
Millspring M.B.C.-Fellowship Services in Remembrance of the Tornado
of April 24, 2010. Millspring M.B.C. will be having fellowship
services which will be held on April 21, 2013 during regular worship
services, beginning at 11 a.m. We will be remembering the 3rd year
anniversary of the tornado that hit and devastated our community.
All of the surrounding churches and communities are invited to attend
this event. Our theme for this event will be “Remembering the Past,
but looking toward the future…..” Haggai 2:9. Dinner will be served
immediately after service. We invite the public to come out and help
us Lift up the name of Jesus and to help us remember where God has
brought us from…

8th graders parent meeting
April 22
Ackerman High School will host a meeting for the current 8th grade
parents on April 22nd at 6 p.m. to provide information about the
graduation and college entrance requirements and to discuss
scheduling concerns for high school. Interested parents should come
to the AHS Library on April 22nd at 6 p.m. in order to become aware
of changes and updates to the graduation requirements for their

Plant Swamp,
workshops April 26
The Town of Weir and Choctaw County Master Gardeners will host a
Plant Swap and Workshops on Friday, April 26 from 10 a.m. until 2
p.m. at the Weir Community Center, 336 Front Street, Weir. Bring a
plant and swap it for a new perennial or annual for your garden.
Additional plants will also be for sale if you do not choose to swap.
Great Presentations will be given by Dr. Lelia Kelly “Grandmother’s
Garden” and Dr. Jeff Wilson “Lawn Care.” Admission is $10 and will
include lunch and presentations. The public is invited to attend.
This is a great opportunity to meet new gardeners and obtain great

Benefit for Jonathan Pollard
April 27
A benefit will be held for Jonathan Pollard on Saturday, April 27
from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Sherwood Community Center in Choctaw
County. Lunch and supper will be served throughout the day (donations
will be accepted). Lunch: Chicken spaghetti or spaghetti with
coleslaw, garlic bread, dessert, and tea
Supper: Chili or soup with crackers, cornbread, dessert, and tea.
Activities during the day will include: a dessert walk, musical
entertainment, small and large item raffles
Jonathan Pollard was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in November
2012. He began chemotherapy treatments in January 2013. His insurance
does not cover all of the treatment costs, and he needs some
assistance with the outstanding medical bills.

15th Annual AHS School Reunion
April 27
On Saturday, April 27, former classmates, teachers, coaches,
administrators and friends will gather on the AHS Campus for their
annual school reunion. The meeting begins in the Ty Cobb Complex at
noon with registration and a Silent Auction until 2 pm. All proceeds
from the Silent Auction support four graduating seniors from AHS. The
program begins at 2 pm in the auditorium. The Ackerman School Reunion
Group was organized in 1998 and is made up of former students,
administrators and friends of AHS. The purpose of the annual meeting
is renewing friendships and supporting the school. There is no cost
for the event.
CCHGS meeting

April 29
Mary Nell Coblentz of French Camp will be the guest speaker for the
April 29th (noon) meeting of the Choctaw County Historical &
Genealogical Society. Her topic is Writings of Virginia Patterson
Carlisle, local poet and journalist. Members and guest are welcome
to join us at the Choctaw Count Public Library Meeting room.

Choctaw County Medical Foundation meeting
May 2
All Choctaw County Medical Foundation members, and anyone interested
in becoming a member, are invited to the annual meeting on May 2 at 7
p.m. at the Choctaw County Community Center in Ackerman. Dues are $25

Fundraiser trail ride upcoming
May 3-5
The Webster Search and Rescue Team will be having a fundraiser trail
ride on May 3-5 on Mount Vernon Road in Webster County. Cost for the
weekend will be $20/adults, $10/kids (12 and under). Day riders can
come and enjoy the ride only on Saturday for $10/adults, $5/kids (12
and under). Breakfast and supper will be provided on Saturday (day
riders can enjoy the meals for an extra $5). The weekend stay will be
primitive camping/no hookups. Saturday night entertainment will be
provided. Gates open at 2 p.m. Friday. For more information, contact

A flea market will be held in Weir on Saturday, May 4 from 7 am-2 pm.

Mayfest in Mathiston
May 4
The Civic League of Mathiston is putting together their first annual
MayFest to be held on Saturday, May 4 starting at 9 AM. We will have
vendors, food, fun for the children, live entertainment and the fun
goes on into the night with a silent auction, raffle giveaway and
karaoke. Vendor spots are only $10 and location is on a first come,
first serve basis. Also, all church, praise and worship and drama
teams are invited to perform as well as soloists and
groups. A PA system will be provided for the entertainment. For more

Bowling Family Concert
May 5
The Bowling Family will be in concert on Sunday night, May 5 at 6 pm
at the Ackerman Church of God. The church is located at 8162 Highway
12 West, Ackerman, MS 39735. There is no admission charge but a love
offering will be taken. There will be a nursery provided. For more

NAACP meeting
May 20
The NAACP of Choctaw County will meet April 15 at 6 p.m. at Mt.
Hermon Church in Ackerman. New members are welcome. The NAACP meets
the third Monday of every month

Vendor Space Available for French Camp Pioneer Day
Applications are now being taken for vendor space for French Camp
Pioneer Day on May 11. Spaces open to arts & crafts vendors selling
items including, antiques, jewelry, woodcrafts, needle arts, leather
crafts, etc. Historic artisans and arts & crafts demonstrators are

JuneFest Vendor Applications

The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications
from food and arts and crafts vendors for JuneFest. JuneFest will be
held Saturday, June 1st in downtown Ackerman. To request an

Choctaw County Farmers’ Market
The farmers’ market will kick off June 1 at JuneFest. Then, it will
be held every Friday in June & July from 3-7 pm. The vendor fee for
JuneFest is $15. Farm Bureau has offered to pay the vendor fee for
the first 10 vendors to register! After JuneFest, there is no vendor
fee. The farmers’ market is part of the MSU Extension Service-
Choctaw County’s Turning the Tide on Poverty Project. Applications

Super Sunday
April 21
Maben Church of God invites everyone to Super Sunday, April 21 at 11
am with Bro. Tommy Conn bringing the message. At 5 p.m. there will be
a Puppet Show and Youth Service. We are bringing Mexican dishes for
our meal after the evening service. The church is located at
