Ladies Conference
April 5
Providence Baptist Church will have their 7th Annual Ladies
Conference on Friday, April 5 at 6 p.m. The speaker will be Mara
Fields of Pontotoc with praise and worship music by Nicole Oswalt and
Shelia Pearson. Come join us for a night of music, worship and fun.
Refreshments and door prizes will immediately follow the service.
Nursery will be provided.

Flea Market April 6
A flea market will be held Saturday, April 6 from 7am – 2pm at the
intersection of Hwys 12 & 15 in Ackerman. There will be lots of
vendors and good food! For information, contact the Choctaw County

Reform Baseball Collection April 6
Bring your cans (not crushed) to the Reform Ball Park from 9 a.m.-11
a.m. to help raise funds to create a walking track around the park.

Pastor Anniversary Celebration April 6-7
Mt. Salem UM Church and First Unity UMC will host a 12th Year
Anniversary Celebration honoring their pastor and wife, Reverend and
Mrs. Lyndon B. Geeter. The celebration will be held on April 6-7 at
First Unity UM Church, Weir. A Family and Friends Hawaiian Fellowship
will be held on Saturday, April 6 at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
The Appreciation Program and Banquet will be held on Sunday, April 7
at 3 p.m. Reverend Tyrone Edwards, Associate Minister of New
Friendship MB Church, Memphis, will be the guest minister. Our theme
is “A Good Shepherd continues to Watch his Flock.” Isaiah 40:11.

Women’s Conference April 6-7
Ackerman Church of God will host a Women’s Conference April 6-7 with
guest speaker Dorlene Harris and Teressa Smith Hooper will lead
Praise and Worship. The conference is entitled “Daughters of the
King”. Registration will be from 5-6pm on Saturday; Worship service
beings at 6pm and Sunday Worship service will begin at 10:45am.
Registration forms are available at Pap’s, Cuttin’ Up, Chamber of
Commerce office or for more information call 662-418-3096. Admission
is $15 before March 15th and at the door $20. The church is located
at 8162 Hwy. 12 West, Ackerman. Come and worship with your sisters in

Little Mr. or Miss Pageant
Deadline April 12
The Ladies of the Rho Nu Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,
Incorporated will be hosting their 1st Little Mr. or Miss Zeta
Royalty Pageant on April 20 for males and females ages 2-16. Anyone
wanting to participate please contact the pageant coordinators

VFW meeting
April 13
The VFW meeting will be held Saturday, March 13 at 9:30 a.m. at
Cagle’s Corner in Ackerman.

Chamber of
Commerce
Celebration April 13
The Chamber of Commerce along with the Economic Development
Foundation will celebrate their 25th anniversary with a potluck on
Saturday, April 13 at 6 p.m. at the Community Center. The Chamber of
Commerce will provide the entrée and drinks. Bring your family and
favorite dish to celebrate 25 years of success. Please RSVP if you

NAACP meeting
April 15
The NAACP of Choctaw County will meet April 15 at 6 p.m. at Mt.
Hermon Church in Ackerman. New members are welcome. The NAACP meets
the third Monday of every month.

Kids Fishing Rodeo
April 20
All children ages 15 and under are invited to fish on Saturday, April
20 at Choctaw Lake. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at the
pavilion in the campground area with the opening ceremony at 8:45
a.m. A parent/guardian must attend with each child to sign a release
waiver. Fishing will be from 9 – 11 a.m. with Farm Bureau providing
lunch for the kids afterwards. Volunteers are needed for the day of
the event. Follow the signs when entering Choctaw Lake. Call the
Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce to volunteer or for more

15th Annual AHS School Reunion
April 27
On Saturday, April 27, former classmates, teachers, coaches,
administrators and friends will gather on the AHS Campus for their
annual school reunion. The meeting begins in the Ty Cobb Complex at
noon with registration and a Silent Auction until 2 pm. All proceeds
from the Silent Auction support four graduating seniors from AHS. The
program begins at 2 pm in the auditorium. The Ackerman School Reunion
Group was organized in 1998 and is made up of former students,
administrators and friends of AHS. The purpose of the annual meeting
is renewing friendships and supporting the school. There is no cost
for the event.

Vendor space available for French Camp Pioneer Day
Applications are now being taken for vendor space for French Camp
Pioneer Day on May 11. Spaces open to arts & crafts vendors selling
items including, antiques, jewelry, woodcrafts, needle arts, leather
crafts, etc. Historic artisans and arts & crafts demonstrators are

The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications
from food and arts and crafts vendors for JuneFest. JuneFest will be
held Saturday, June 1st in downtown Ackerman. To request an

Run for the Son and Open House April 6
Camp of the Rising Son is hosting an Open House and 3.2 mile
challenge “Run for the Son” on Saturday, April 6.The race starts at 8
a.m. with registration opening at 7 a.m. and the cost is $20 ($25 day
of event). There will be a 1 mile fun run for the kids afterwards
(FREE). From 10 a.m. til 2 p.m. the camp will have an open house
with tours and activities available for potential campers such as the
climbing tower, waterfront, horseback riding, and more. Camp of the
Rising Son is located on the campus of French Camp Academy.

Benefit for Jonathan Pollard April 27
A benefit will be held for Jonathan Pollard on Saturday, April 27
from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Sherwood Community Center in Choctaw
County. Lunch and supper will be served throughout the day (donations
will be accepted). Lunch: Chicken spaghetti or spaghetti with
coleslaw, garlic bread, dessert, and tea
Supper: Chili or soup with crackers, cornbread, dessert, and tea.
Activities during the day will include: a dessert walk, musical
entertainment, small and large item raffles
Jonathan Pollard was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in November
2012. He began chemotherapy treatments in January 2013. His insurance
does not cover all of the treatment costs, and he needs some
assistance with the outstanding medical bills.
