New events planned for JuneFest 2013

Submitted by Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce

The 2013 Choctaw County JuneFest Committee met at the Chamber of
Commerce office on Tuesday, March 5, to make decisions impacting
JuneFest 2013.

JuneFest will incorporate the Turning the Tide on Poverty Flea Market
vendors this year. All vendors who have participated in one of the
local flea markets will be allowed to set up around the walking
track. This area of the festival will be called, “Treasure Alley.”
All local Turning the Tide on Poverty Flea Market vendors must submit
an application to participate in JuneFest.

The Farmers’ Market will return to JuneFest this year and use the
festival as their kickoff event for the summer. The Farmers’ Market
will be held at the corner of East Main Street and South Commerce
Street. The Farmers’ Market will be open every Friday from 3 – 7 p.m.
during the summer. If you are interested in participating in the
Farmers’ Market for JuneFest contact the Chamber of Commerce office
for a vendor application or Juli Hughes at the MSU Extension office,
662-285-6337.

The Committee made a decision on night time entertainment for
JuneFest. The opening act and headliner will be announced at a later
date, but both groups are regional and have band members from Choctaw
County.

JuneFest Kid’s World will have new activities for children. A rock
wall and bucking bull will debut at JuneFest, along with new and
exciting inflatables that kids of all ages can enjoy.

A t-shirt committee was formed by the JuneFest Committee to design
and select a t-shirt reflective of JuneFest. The Ackerman Twentieth
Century Club will sell the JuneFest t-shirts to raise money for the
Distinguished Young Woman program.

Vendor applications are being accepted for food and arts and crafts
vendors. The JuneFest Committee is reaching out to find demonstrating
artists to come to JuneFest. Demonstrating artist will actually make
their crafts on site for visitors of the festival to watch and learn.
If you are interested in displaying your skills during JuneFest or
setting up a food or arts and crafts booth, contact the Chamber of
Commerce Office for a vendor application.

The JuneFest Committee has partnered with Clark Beverage Group to
sale all Coca-Cola products at the festival. The JuneFest Committee
will be selling all soft drinks, sports drinks and water.

JuneFest sponsorship letters have been sent to businesses around the
county who support JuneFest each year. Without local support from
businesses and individuals in the community JuneFest would not be
possible along with numerous volunteers. JuneFest is held each year
as family oriented event for the citizens of Choctaw County. If you
would like to participate or have feedback for the JuneFest
Committee, please contact Lara Bowman, Chamber of Commerce Director,
at l.bowman@choctawcountyms.com or 662-285-3778.

If you would like a vendor application or volunteer to help with
JuneFest please contact the Chamber of Commerce office at 662-285-3778.

Stay tuned for more exciting announcements about JuneFest 2013.
