First Responders Dinner honors dedication, service

The Chamber of Commerce hosted the First Responders Dinner on March 1
at the Choctaw County Community Center in Ackerman.

The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the First Responders Dinner to honor
and thank all first responders in the county for their servitude and
acts of selflessness for the county’s citizens. First responders in
the county include volunteer firefighters, police officers, sheriff
deputies, 911 dispatchers, game wardens, highway patrolman and
MedStat-EMS staff. All first responders and one guest were invited to
the dinner catered by Sonny’s Smokehouse. More than 200 were in
attendance for the dinner.

Every first responder at the dinner, present at the time, was given a
door prize.

Robert Latham, Jr., Director of the Mississippi Emergency Management
Agency (MEMA) was the keynote speaker for the event and District 35
Representative Joey Hood served as emcee for the night.

Entertainment for the evening was provided by Southern Flair
Bluegrass Gospel. Southern Flair is made up of a group of students
from the French Camp area.

Participants in the Distinguished Young Woman program, Cub Scouts
Pack 41 and students from French Camp Academy volunteered to serve
food to first responders and guests.
