Sentences handed down in circuit court

Circuit Court in Choctaw County was held in late February with at
least nine people pleading guilty to their charges.

Judge Clarence Morgan handed down these sentences after the person
pled guilty.

-Tommy Green was charged with felony burglary of a building other
than a dwelling, which was reduced to the misdemeanor of petit
larceny. He was sentenced to pay restitution of $300.

-Floyd Garlin Medders was charged with felony possession of a weapon
by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to 8 years to the Mississippi
Department of Corrections. After serving 2 years, he will be placed
on probation for 6 years. Five of those probation years were
suspended with one year to serve.

-Joseph Miller was charged with felony burglary of a building other
than a dwelling. He was sentenced to 7 years to MDOC. After serving 2
years, he will serve on probation for 5 years and ordered to pay
restitution of $1,000.

-Andrell Bean was charged with felony motor vehicle theft. He was
sentenced to 5 years to MDOC. After serving 2 years, he will serve on
probation for 3 years and ordered to pay restitution of $500.

-Andrell Bean was charged with felony crime of escape of a prisoner.
He was sentenced to one year and nine months to MDOC to run
concurrent with his previous sentence.

-Brenda Bryant was charged with three counts of sale of cocaine.
Count 3-sale of cocaine was dismissed after she pled guilty to the
first two counts. She was sentenced on Count 1 to 17 years to MDOC
with 5 years suspended for 5 years. She is to serve 12 year then 5
years probation.

Also ordered to pay a fine of $5,000 with $4,000 suspended and $1,000
to pay. On Count 2, she was sentenced to 12 years to MDOC with a
$5,000 fine with all of it suspended. This sentence is to run
concurrent with Count 1 sentence.

-Latonia Michelle Floyd was charged with felony sale of scheduled 2
controlled substance. She was sentenced to 10 years to MDOC with 5
years suspended for 5 years. She is to serve 5 years then 5 years on
probation and ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.

-Charles Patton was charged with felony failure to register as
convicted sex offender. He was sentenced to 5 years to MDOC. After
serving one year, he will serve 4 years on probation.

-Samuel Gazaway was charged with felony aiding escape of prisoner. He
was sentenced to 10 years to MDOC with 6 years suspended for 5 years.
He will serve 4 years then 5 years on probation and was ordered to
pay a fine of $2,000.

-Samuel Gazaway was charged with felony possession of controlled
substance in a correctional facility. He was sentenced to 4 years to
run concurrent with previous sentence.

-Curtis Mosley was charged with Count 1 possession of cocaine and
Count 2 possession of more than 30 grams but less than 250 grams of
marihuana. Count 2 was dismissed. He was sentenced on Count 1 to 8
years to MDOC. After serving 5 years, he will serve 3 years on
probation and ordered to pay a fine of $500.

-Joshua Dempsey was charged with felony statutory rape. He was
sentenced to 20 years to MDOC. After serving 5 years, he will serve
15 years on probation.
