Eight students representing Ackerman High School advanced from the
local science fair to attend the Region V Science Fair at Mississippi
State University on February 19.
Each student presented their project and was judged by two or more
category judges as well as judges for special awards. Two students
received special recognition for outstanding work. Jennifer Bigley
was selected as one of the Region V finalists to advance to the
International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Phoenix, AZ,
in May, and present her project there. Katalin Jones was selected as
an alternate and will also attend.
Katalin was also selected to receive a special $250 cash award given
by the International Society for Optics and Phontonics.
Jo Anne Reid, AHS biology teacher, was selected for the ISEF
Finalist Educator Award, awarded in recognition of excellence in
mentoring and science education in preparation of students to compete
in the Region V Mississippi Science and Engineering Fair, which
included a $50 gift card to Walmart.
The following students will advance to the Mississippi State Science
Fair to be held March 26, at Jackson State University, accompanied by
Biology teachers Anthony McGee and Reid.
