Fab Fridays features diabetes

By Amanda McBride The Choctaw Plaindealer

Ellen Wallace, diabetic education coordinator, with The Diabetic Shoppe, briefly explains diabetes and gives everyone tips on living healthier especially with diabetes.

A few of her simple tips on living healthier are: set one goal at a time; changing one thing at a time, eat more whole foods (example: eat an apple rather than drink apple juice) and at the grocery store, shop the outside where the whole foods are and limit your cans and boxes.

After Wallace’s presentation, Juli Hughes, county director of Mississippi State University Extension Service – Choctaw County, demonstrated how to make a sweet potato cheese ball while explaining its nutritional value.

Make plans to attend the last Fabulous Fridays in February event on Friday, February 22 at noon at the Choctaw County Library to learn about cholesterol from Krista Blaylock, FNP-C with Pioneer Family Medical of Weir. Then Pam Awad, Nutrition Educator will do a food demo of Fresh Garlic Dressing. Program sponsors are Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw, Gentiva Home Health and MSU Extension Service – Choctaw County.
