Saturday, June 1, 2013, will be the date of the sixth annual Choctaw County JuneFest. Planning for the event officially kicked off last week with a committee meeting at the Chamber of Commerce office.
The JuneFest committee meeting began with a discussion about, “Why do we have JuneFest and who is JuneFest for each year?” The committee strives to have a festival reflective of the people of Choctaw County by providing events and entertainment all ages can participate in and enjoy.
The committee discussed the highlights of JuneFest 2012 and brainstormed ways to grow and improve JuneFest for 2013. The group also discussed potential entertainment groups for the street dance on Saturday night.
“JuneFest is not possible each year without the committee, which is strictly voluntarily. All of the committee members love our community and work hard to plan a day of festivities for the entire family to enjoy,” stated Lara Bowman, Director of the Chamber of Commerce.
JuneFest Committee members who attended the first meeting are: Ackerman Mayor Dick Cain, French Camp Mayor Glen Barlow, Ackerman Police Chief Tanya Burton, Debbie Boley, Amanda McBride, Shelia Forrester, B.B. Hemphill, Brandt Peterson, Pam Simpson, Robin Sheedy, Juli Hughes, Darrell Banks, Peggy Miller, Brandy Davis, Donna McKay and Lara Bowman.
