The Ackerman Board of Aldermen approved to hire Guyton Montgomery as a full-time police officer for the Ackerman Police Department.

After recognizing the resignation of APD officer David McCool, the board and Police Chief Tanya Burton began discussing the now open full-time position. Burton recommended Montgomery for the full-time officer position after stating that he was “very well qualified” with seven years of experience. Montgomery is currently a certified police officer and has been working part-time with the APD.

The board also briefly discussed a letter from Mattie Shells McDaniels asking the board to not charge her the $120 deposit when she moves back to Ackerman. In her letter, she described a past water leak issue and agreement with the late Mayor Bruce Burney where he agreed to waive the deposit when she moved back to Ackerman. The aldermen approved to honor the agreement promised by Burney.

The Board of Aldermen also approved:
-Annual Summer Youth donation $2,000
-FY 2012 audit by Dungan, CPA with no findings.
-Deletion of fixed assets.
-To hire Anthony Carter as a candidate for Ackerman Fire Department.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Aldermen will be March 5 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
