20th Century Club members celebrate Jane Croly

Ackerman Twentieth Century Club met Thursday, December 13, 2012 in the home of club hostess Marina Loper for a PJ Christmas party with thirteen members present.

President Shurden called the meeting to order. She welcomed the newest club member, Chellie Cardone. A reading committee read and approved the November meeting minutes.

Tinker Forrester, fundraising chairman, announced that the club’s Christmas Brunch was very successful. A motion was made and seconded that the club adopt the Christmas Brunch fundraiser again for next year for December 7, 2013. The motion carried unanimously.

President Shurden presented Cherrie Robison with the trophy for the Best Non-Business Trunk that was held in October during the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce Trunk-or-Treat event.

Jeanith Burdine, Leadership chairman, announced that December 19th would be Jane Cunningham Croly’s birthday. Members celebrated with cake and birthday hats. Croly was the founder of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs with it being organized in 1889. She was the founder and driving force behind the American club women’s movement. She set in motion a sisterhood of capable American women that would reshape our American society and it is still carried on in 2013. A motion was made to send $50.00 in honor of Jane Cunningham Crowley’s birthday to be used in the care of her gravesite. The motion was seconded and carried.

JoAnne Reid, Education Chairman, announced that the writing contest entries had been collected and would be judged. Winners will be invited to the March meeting.

President Shurden made a motion that the club send Ms. Clara Williams, lifetime member, a poinsettia for Christmas. The motion was seconded and carried.

January 17th meeting will focus on a nursing home project with Cherrie Robison as leader. LEADS nominee, Clubwoman of the Year, and new club bags will be presented in January.

President Shurden thanked club members for their hard work on the Christmas Brunch and presented them with polish for their “MISTLETOES.”

Tinker Forrester provided the mediation from the book, Jacob’s Gift.

Members enjoyed an array of refreshments provided by hostess Marina Loper and then Shelia Lance led members in games and the Christmas Exchange.
