Ackerman Twentieth Century Club met at the Choctaw County Library on Thursday, November 15, 2012 with eleven members present. Hostess for the evening was Courtney Coleman.
President Susan Shurden called the meeting to order and introduced MFWC Vice President Sue Addy and Coreen Vandender. A delicious meal was provided by our hostess for the evening.
During the business session the November minutes were read and approved. There were two correspondences read, both from the Choctaw County Animal Shelter, thanking the Club for the donations and volunteers at the shelter. The treasury report was given by Club Treasurer Johnie Power. A request from International Affairs Chairman Marina Loper was made to reallocate funds from Operation Christmas Child to Heifer International. A motion was made, seconded and carried to follow through.
Membership Chair Ginny Lucas presented Donna McKay with her club t- shirt. Ginny read a letter from Tinker Forrester nominating Chellie Cardonie to become a member and after voting Shelley was unanimously voted in as a new member.
Fundraising Chair Tinker Forrester informed the club that the Innisbrook fundraiser was a success. She also informed the Club members that Christmas t-shirt sales were successful and as voted by the Club, all monies would be used for Military Veterans. Tinker also provided more information on the upcoming Christmas Brunch.
Community Improvement Project Chair Donna McKay informed the Club that $3,750 was raised during the October “Paws to Support the Choctaw County Animal Shelter” fundraiser. $102.71 was donated by Club members, food, silent auction gifts, as well as, many volunteer hours. Quantum Choctaw Power donated $2,000 towards the Animal Shelter during this event.
It was reported that the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce Trunk or Treat event was a huge success. The Club won a trophy as the Non Business Winner.
Program Leader Susan Shurden presented Sue Addy to discuss the important gifts of reporting. Ginny Lucas shared a meditation with “A Thanksgiving Poem” author unknown. Jeanith Burdine displayed a red, white and blue tree as her highlight and took up signed Christmas Cards for the Veterans. Jeanith also shared fun facts and news from the GFWC Southern Region convention.
She led the Club in The Collect and the Club was dismissed. Next meeting date will be Thursday, December 13th with Marina Loper as hostess.
