Miller attends NCNW National Convention

The National Council of Negro Women hosted its 55th National convention at the Gaylord Hotel in National Harbor, Maryland on May 23-26, 2012. The Kosciusko/Attala County Section was represented by Charlotte F. Miller.

This year’s theme was Recognizing the Past; Harnessing the Present; and Envisioning the Future. The four-day historic gathering consisted of plenary sessions, workshops, town hall meetings, various luncheons and a Purple and White Gala in memory of Dr. Dorothy I. Height.

Charlotte attended the following workshops: Wealth, Acquisition, Protection and Growth; Entrepreneurship – From Moms & Pops to Sister CEO; Putting Yourself First for a Healthier You; Working Together Works; Translating our National Strategy into Local Action; and Making a Lasting Contribution Books and Bucks.

Speakers and presenters included Dr. Johnetta Cole – former president of Spelman College and Bennett College for Women, Regina Benjamin, MD, United States Surgeon General, and Dr. Cynthia Butler-McIntyre, National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Other highlights of the convention were the election of national president, Ingrid Saunders Jones and a tour of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial.
