The Ackerman Indians and Weir Lions will remain in their same Class and Region in the upcoming year while the French Camp Panthers will make a new transition.
The Mississippi High School Activities Association released the new regions for 2013-15 on Friday, Nov. 30.
Although the Indians were not placed into a new division, Class 2A Region 2 will look much different in 2013. While Eupora and East Webster will remain in the same region as Ackerman, Calhoun City and Bruce are returning to Region 2. Okolona will also join making Region 2 one of the toughest Class 2A regions with all six teams postseason worthy. Division games in the 2013 will display stout competition, as every team in Region 2 is known for their winning tradition.
Some questions remain as to what will happen if the Department of Justice makes the call to consolidate Ackerman and Weir this January, which should put the combined schools in Class 3A.
As of now, the Weir Lions will continue to reside in Class 1A, Region 3.
However, the French Camp Panthers will join the Lions making a transition from Class 1A Region 2 in the North Half to Class 1A Region 3 in the South Half.
The new Region 3-1A will include East Oktibbeha, Ethel, French Camp, Nanih Waiya, Noxapater, Pelahatchie, Sebastopol, Weir, West Lowndes and West Oktibbeha.
