County students receive football honors for 2012

With the end of the Mississippi High School Activities Association 2012 football season, several Choctaw county players received postseason honors.

The 2012 Mississippi Association of Coaches recently announced the Class 1A and 2A All-State teams. In addition, the All-Region teams in 2-1A and 3-1A were also released.

Ackerman After a winning season, the Ackerman Indians had six players on their roster to receive All-State recognition. Senior Trent Furr (P) was selected as first team defense in the coaches Class 2A All-State team. Junior Paxton Sims (OG) was selected as second team offense while the coaches picked junior K’Tre Brown (DE), junior Taboris Lee (DT) and senior Alex Foust (ILB) as second team defense.

All-Region selections and honorable mentions for 2-2A have not been released yet.

French Camp The French Camp Panthers stacked up postseason awards commemorating a historical season. Senior Ben Hosket was selected as the MHSAA 1A defensive player of the year. Junior Sam Gould (K) was selected as first team All-State offense while junion Hagan Box (CB) was selected as first team All-State defense. Senior Andrew Stevens (C) was picked as second team All-State defense.

The Class 1A Region 2 All-Region Panthers include Ben Hosket, Lavondre Carter, Jaylon Clemons, Dylan Dickey, Andrew Stevens, Hagan Box, Jesse Hosket and Douglas Hughes. Honorable mentions include Daniel Hughes Sam Gould and Jevante McAdory.

Weir After a hard fought season, the Weir Lions received postseason honors with one All-State selection and several All-Region players on their roster. Senior Darius Brown (KR) was selected by the coaches as second team All-State defense.

The Class 1A Region 3 All-Region Lions include Tyler Henson, Darius Brown and Bailey Callahan. TY Martin received honorable mention.
