Volunteer workday at shelter a success

Progress can be seen at the site of the Choctaw County Animal Shelter after a recent volunteer workday.

The volunteer workday was held Nov. 17 on site with 16 volunteers. One whole side of the roof of the building was finished as well as the cat house enclosure, according to Donna McKay, club chair for Ackerman 20th Century’s Community Improvement Project.

McKay is leading fundraising efforts for the animal shelter as part of a community improvement project for the Ackerman 20th Century Club.

“I appreciate all of the support that everyone has given to the Choctaw County Animal Shelter over the last couple of months. Thank you for your donations and for volunteering your time whether it was during the recent fundraiser or working at the Animal Shelter site,” said McKay.

“This project would not be successful without the help and full support of my co-club members of the Ackerman Twentieth Century Club.”

The Ackerman 20th Century Club also provided lunch for the volunteers.

Dr. Rita Morris, director of the Choctaw County Animal Shelter, says the shelter is “thankful for all of the help and were pleased with what was accomplished.”
