Ann Downing in concert Nov. 25 Come celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season with Legendary Gospel Recording Artist, Ann Downing, of The Downing’s, at Pine Forest Baptist Church, located 7 miles North of Stewart, on May Road. The concert will be on Sunday, November 25, 6 p.m. A love offering will be received and refreshments will be served after the concert. Ann will be performing some of your Christmas favorites. Historical & Genealogical meeting Nov. 26 Choctaw County Historical & Genealogical will meet 26th November at the Choctaw County Public Library Meeting Room at Noon. James Pearson, Speaker, will present the first chapter of his new book which opens in Old Antioch Church of Christ Cemetery on his family’s (Bramlett) land. Burlap Wreath Workshop Nov. 27 Learn how to make a burlap wreath Tuesday, November 27 at 5:30 pm at the Choctaw County Extension Office. Cost is $10 which includes burlap and supplies. You may bring your own decorations to put on the wreath. Workshop is limited to 8 participants so pre-registration is required. To register, call 285-6337.

Ribbon Cutting for The Bent Can Nov. 30 A ribbon cutting will be held at The Bent Can at noon on November 30. The public is invited to attend and welcome new owner Katie May to Choctaw County. Christmas Parade Dec. 6, Entry deadline Nov. 30 The Town of Ackerman would like to announce plans for the 2012 Christmas Parade. This year’s theme will be A Picture Perfect Christmas. It will be held in downtown Ackerman on Thursday, December 6, beginning at 6 p.m. Entry forms must be completed and returned no later than November 30 to: Ackerman Christmas Parade, PO Box 394, Ackerman, MS 39735. Weir Flea Market December 1 A Flea Market will be held on Front Street in Weir Saturday, December 1 from 7 a.m.-2 p.m.. There is no vendor fee. Applications are available at the Choctaw County Extension Office, Broken Wings Ministry and Weir Town Hall. You may also email jhughes@ext.msstate.edu. Yarn Spinners Book Club Dec. 4 Yarn Spinners Book Club meets at the Choctaw County Extension Office at 10:30-12:00 on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Participants take turns choosing which books to read, so there is a wide variety of subjects; some fiction, some non-fiction. Because Holiday preparations and events can be so hectic this time of year, on December 4th participants will share a little about one of their favorite books. Christmas Brunch Dec. 8 Celebrate the Season at a Christmas Brunch on December 8th from 9am-11am at the Community Center in Ackerman. Come enjoy the beautiful tablescapes delicious dishes and door prizes to be given away. Vendors will be on hand so plan to shop for Christmas. Special music will be provided and you don’t want to miss the featured speaker – Rita Sweatt. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased from any club member. This event is hosted by GFWC Ackerman Twentieth Century Club.

Christmas Parade in Weir Dec. 11 “Christmas in My Hometown” is the theme of the 2012 Christmas Parade in Weir. The parade will be Tuesday, December 11 at 6 p.m. All churches, organizations, and individuals are invited to march or ride in the parade. Christmas trees needed for Holiday Open House Christmas trees needed for Holiday Open House on Thursday, December 13 at the Choctaw County Library. We would like school groups, church groups, businesses and other organizations in the county to decorate Christmas trees. Each group is responsible for securing their own tree, live or artificial. We ask that no food items or glitter be used in decorations. Trees must be up by December 12 at noon. A Peoples’ Choice Award will be given again this year. Food for Families Food Drive Pack-the-Trailer Dec. 13 The Choctaw County Extension Office asks everyone to help them Pack- the-Trailer for Broken Wings as part of the WTVA Food for Families Food Drive. Please bring non-perishable food items to the Extension’s Holiday Open House on December 13 at the Choctaw County Library in Ackerman. All donated items will be given to Broken Wings.

30 Day Giveaway The Ackerman Athletic Booster Club is sponsoring a 30 day giveaway during the month of November. Among items to be given away are: $100 cash, rifles, oil change, mani & pedis, gift certificates, and other items too numerous to mention. Tickets may be purchased from any athlete or booster club member.

Tickets are $30 and offer 30 chances to win. If your name is drawn as a winner, it goes back in the pot for another chance.
