French Camp aims for winning streak to continue

All that separates the French Camp Panthers from a trip to Mississippi Memorial Stadium in Jackson is three more wins.

The Panthers have claimed the Class 1A, Region 2, District 3 title and are eagerly waiting to enter the first round of the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 1A north half playoffs.

The Panthers took two non-division losses early in the season against a pair of tough Class 2A opponents, Eupora and Ackerman. However as soon as the Panthers jumped into district matches, they became an unstoppable force on the gridiron.

French Camp gained momentum this season after their 16-14 victory over last year’s north half champions, the Shaw Hawks. The Panthers have been knocking out the competition game after game earning seven consecutive wins with five shutouts. The Panthers are averaging 35 points per game overall this season and have outscored their district adversaries 287-28.

Led by head coach Nathan Wright, French Camp has dominated the field on both sides of the ball this season

Offensively, sophomore quarterback Jesse Hosket has helped his team this season completing 42 out of 79 passes through the air for 712 yards with 13 touchdowns. Hosket has had 41 carries for 250 yards with four touchdowns.

Senior running back Jaylon Clemons leads French Camp in rushing yards with 136 carries for 1075 yards with 11 touchdowns. Clemons is averaging 107.5 yards a game. Senior receiver Lovandra Carter has 16 receptions for 273 yards with six touchdowns.

Junior Hagan Box has 65 carries for 254 yards with three rushing touchdowns and has stacked up eight receptions for 203 yards with three receiving touchdowns. Senior Ben Hosket leads the Panthers on the defensive side of the ball with 92 stops, three sacks and three fumble recoveries. Junior Dylan Dickey follows with 65 stops, four sacks and one fumble recovery.

Junior kicker Sam Gould has added 34 extra points for the Panthers this season and kicked 10 successful field goals giving French Camp a boost of 64 points this season. French Camp has an overall record of 8-2 and is 7-0 in division contests.

This Friday the Panthers will play host to the Coldwater Cougars.

The Cougars have a 7-4 overall record, are 5-3 in district play and received a Region 1, District No. 4 seed spot in Region1, playoff action.

Coldwater recently defeated Houlka, 42-0.
