The Choctaw County School Board held a short monthly meeting on October 8.
A special recognition was held to honor district teachers that had a class QDI of High Performing or Star.
“So exciting to discuss this tonight,” said Glen Beard, superintendent, before calling each of the 20 teachers one by one to receive a certificate and gift card.
Each teacher received a $50 gift card to Harvey’s for the hard work and Star teachers received an additional $50 gift card of instructional funds. Businesses contributing to the gift cards were: Choctaw County Economic Development Foundation, Choctaw Generation- Red Hills Power Plant, GenOn and the North American Coal-Red Hills Mine.
The board briefly discussed then approved the Title 1 School Wide plans, a 16 section lease agreement, the Crisis Management plans and the District Test Security plan under discussion on their agenda.
After the discussion items, the School Board moved quickly approving the consent and financial agendas. School Board Member Mike Thomas arrived toward the end of the meeting before the financial agenda was approved.
In the consent agenda the board approved:
School trips: Ackerman High School: Academic Team to Ole Miss Brain Brawl in Oxford and GED students to HCC Attala Educational Center in Kosciusko.
French Camp Elementary: Pre-K and Kindergarten to Bull Bottom Farms in Duck Hill.
Weir Attendance Center: 5th grade to Health Works in Tupelo, 1st grade class to Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo and Vocational Field Trip to How Farming has Changed at the MS Agricultural and Forestry Museum.
Conference/Workshop requests: AES: Jason Bridges to Through the Rater’s Eyes in Oxford.
CCCTC: Kim Thomas to Annual Health Science Instructor meeting in Pontotoc and to VIP Teacher Training in Verona, Ronda Huffman to Fall Director’s meeting in Raymond and to Pathways to Success Follow-Up in Grenada. Central Office: Bob Mamrack to SPED 1213-18 Exit Options in Jackson, to Choices Planner for High Schools at ICC-Tupelo and to Choices Explorer for Middle School in Grenada, Kim Maxwell to MAAECF Through the Rater’s Eyes/Resources for Assessing SCD students in Oxford, Michelle Larabee to Professional Learning Communities in Meridian.

Request concerning donation of iPad.
Also in the consent agenda, the School Board approved the following Choctaw County School District personnel changes: Resignation from Christina McDaniel.
In the financial agenda the board approved: Request to transfer 16 section interest funds for cash flow purposes. Docket of claims. Teacher substitute report. Absentee report. Financial statements. Diesel bids and immediate payment thereof. Requests for fixed asset disposal. The next regular scheduled board meeting will be November 12 at 7 p.m. at Central Office.
