Shooting Sports Training Oct. 19-20 4-H is offering training for adults interested in becoming certified 4-H Shooting Sports instructors. Training will be held October 19-20 in Marion County or November 9-10 in Lee County. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age. Gospel Singing Oct. 20 A gospel singing will be held at Stewart Fire Department (Hwy. 82, Stewart) on October 20 at 6 p.m. featuring Southern Image, Sold Out, Revelations, Chuck Clark and Joy Card. M/M Choctaw County Pageant Oct. 20 The M/M Choctaw County Pageant will be October 20 at 6 p.m. at the Ty Cobb Auditorium in Ackerman.

Society meeting Oct. 22 Join the Choctaw County Historical and Genealogical Society for their monthly meeting on October 22 at noon at the Choctaw County Library- Meeting Room. The meeting will include speaker William Ganann on the topic “Seasonal Things in Choctaw County.” All interested in history and genealogy are invited.

Professionalism Seminar Oct. 25 Time management and professionalism can greatly impact a business either positively or negatively. A seminar will be held Thursday, October 25 from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the Choctaw County Extension Office via interactive video and will cover topics and concerns crucial for potential or existing business owners. Chamber of Commerce Annual Reception Oct. 25 The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce Annual Reception will be held Thursday, October 25 at 6 pm at the Community Center in Ackerman. 5k Run/Walk Oct. 27 The “In His Hands Mission” 5k Run/Walk will be held October 27 at 8 a.m. in downtown Ackerman. The Ackerman Church of God Youth are sponsoring the 5k Run/Walk to raise funds for a mission trip to North Little Rock, Ark. All ages are encouraged to participate. $20 per person. Pre-register by October 21 to receive a free t-shirt. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. with race beginning at 8 a.m. at the pavilion across from Main Street in Ackerman. Choctaw County Animal Shelter Fundraising Event Oct. 27 Paws to Support the Choctaw County Animal Shelter Fundraising Event will be held Saturday, October 27 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Enon CP Church’s Lighthouse Center. The church is located at 9000 Hwy. 12 East, Ackerman. Vendors will be there selling jewelry, purses, cookware, Scentsy candles, Tupperware, BeautiControl products and much more! Also, there will be games for the children and a silent auction. Coffee and donuts served at 9 a.m. and lunch will be available at noon. Proceeds go to the Choctaw County Animal Shelter. Spooktacular Parade and Trunk-or-Treat Oct. 30 The Spooktacular Parade and Trunk-or-Treat will be held Tuesday, October 30. It is hosted by the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce. Parade begins at 6 pm at the walking track pavilion in Ackerman with the Trunk-or-Treat immediately following in the Main Street parking lot. AARP Driver Safety program Nov. 3 The AARP Driver Safety program will be held November 3 from noon-4:30 p.m. at the Ackerman Public Library, 561 S. Louisville Street. Program is especially designed for drivers age 50 and over. Fee is $14 each for non-members, $12 each for AARP members and free for veterans. Homecoming at Huntsville Presbyterian Church Nov. 4 Homecoming services at Huntsville Presbyterian Church will be Sunday, November 4 at 10:30 a.m. Dinner on the grounds following the service.

Enon C.P. Church Homecoming Nov. 4 Enon C.P. Church will celebrate their 2nd Annual Homecoming on Sunday, November 4. Services will begin at 10 a.m. with singing by the Southern Image quartet. Southern Image has been performing for approximately 15 years doing concerts with many well known artists throughout those years. Following the singing, Bro. Ray Latham, former pastor, will be bringing the morning message. A potluck meal will be served immediately after the worship service. Everyone is invited to come and share this special day. Brunswick Stew Sale Nov. 10 Enon C P Church will be cooking Brunswick Stew for donations on Saturday, November 10. If you would like to reserve a gallon, prior to the 10th, bring your jar with your name on it to the church and we will fill the reserved jars first. The stew should be ready for pick up by noon. Christmas Parade Dec. 6, Entry deadline Nov. 30 The Town of Ackerman would like to announce plans for the 2012 Christmas Parade. This year’s theme will be A Picture Perfect Christmas. It will be held in downtown Ackerman on Thursday, December 6, beginning at 6 p.m. Entry forms must be completed and returned no later than November 30 to: Ackerman Christmas Parade, PO Box 394, Ackerman, MS 39735. Christmas Parade in Weir Dec. 11 “Christmas in My Hometown” is the theme of the 2012 Christmas Parade in Weir. The parade will be Tuesday, December 11 at 6 p.m. All churches, organizations, and individuals are invited to march or ride in the parade.
