The French Camp Academy Panthers are making a statement this season.
The Panthers traveled to Greenville last Friday night to square off with the St. Joseph Fighting Irish in another round of Class 1A, Region 2, District 3 play. French Camp grabbed their fourth consecutive win and fifth overall this season.
The Panther defense shut down the St. Joseph offense leaving the Fighting Irish scoreless with their 30-0 victory.
French Camp started scoring in the first quarter with a 15-yard pass from junior quarterback Jesse Hosket to an open Lovondra Carter for a Panther touchdown. Junior kicker Sam Gould added the extra point giving French Camp a 7-0 lead over St. Joseph.
Led by senior running back Jaylon Clemons, the Panthers running game came alive in the second quarter. Clemons made a 28-yard dash to the end zone giving French Camp a 13-0 momentum over the Fighting Irish.
Later in the second quarter, Hosket connected with Hagan Box 44 yards through the air for another Panther touchdown. Gould added the PAT and the French Camp lead advanced, 20-0.
After halftime, both teams’ offenses remained silent until later in the third quarter. Gould put three points on the board with a successful 37-yard field goal attempt.
The Panthers capped their scoring in the fourth quarter when Hosket finished a Panther drive with an eight-yard pass to junior Cole Henson in the end zone.
Clemons led the rushing attack racking up 28 carries for 179 yards with one touchdown. Box followed with seven carries for 32 yards while freshman Corrie Witt had three carries for 19 yards. Hosket had 10 carries picking up 16 yards.
Hosket had a solid performance in last week’s game going 8-9 through the air for 122 yards with three touchdowns.
Box led in receptions catching three passes for 57 yards with one touchdown. Henson had two receptions for 18 yards with one touchdown while senior Ben Hosket had one reception for 18 yards. Carter had one reception for 15 yards and a touchdown while Dylan Dickey had one reception for 14 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ben Hosket led with 15 stops. Clemons followed with 11 stops while Cortez Johnson had seven stops and one sack. Dickey, Jevante McAdory and Douglas Hughes each had six stops.
Box caught one interception. Hunter McKnight and Jesse Hosket recovered one fumble each.
French Camp boasts a 5-2 overall record and is 4-0 in district games.
The Panthers will face a big challenge this Friday night as they travel to Coffeeville to take on the Pirates.
Both French Camp and Coffeeville lead Class 1A, Region 2, District 3 and are undefeated in district games before entering Friday’s matchup.
The Pirates hold a 4-3 overall record and are 3-0 in district play. Coffeeville recently defeated Ray Brooks, 24-0.
The Panthers are hoping to keep a blemish free district record this week and bring home another win. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
