Cornerstone Celebration Oct. 14 Ackerman United Methodist Church will hold a Cornerstone Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the building of the Ackerman UM Church on Sunday, October 14 beginning with the morning worship service at 10:30 a.m.

Homecoming Oct. 14 Maben Church of God invites everyone to Homecoming on October 14 at 11 a.m. Bishop Hootie Maples of Mobile, Ala. will be the guest speaker. At 10 a.m. Revelations from Jackson will be singing. Meal will follow. There will be no evening service. Revival services will be held Monday, October 15 and Tuesday, October 16 at 7 p.m. nightly with Bishop Maples as guest speaker. Come on out and enjoy the worship and music. Sheedy-Hall Reunion Oct. 14 Family and friends are invited to the Sheedy-Hall Family Reunion on October 14 at Barbara Stoecker’s house at 12625 Hwy. 12, Weir.

Bake Sale Oct. 19 Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw will have a bake sale on October 19 at 10 a.m. in front of the hospital. Shooting Sports Training Oct. 19-20 4-H is offering training for adults interested in becoming certified 4-H Shooting Sports instructors. Training will be held October 19-20 in Marion County or November 9-10 in Lee County. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age. Chamber of Commerce Annual Reception Oct. 25 The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce Annual Reception will be held Thursday, October 25 at 6 pm at the Community Center in Ackerman. Celebrating 25 years of service to Choctaw County. Tickets will go on sale after October 1. $10 for Chamber members and $12 for Non-Chamber members. For more info. call 285-3778.

Choctaw County Animal Shelter Fundraising Event Oct. 27 Paws to Support the Choctaw County Animal Shelter Fundraising Event will be held Saturday, October 27 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Enon CP Church’s Lighthouse Center. The church is located at 9000 Hwy. 12 East, Ackerman. Vendors will be there selling jewelry, purses, cookware, Scentsy candles, Tupperware, BeautiControl products and much more! Also, there will be games for the children and a silent auction. Coffee and donuts served at 9 a.m. and lunch will be available at noon. Proceeds go to the Choctaw County Animal Shelter. Spooktacular Parade and Trunk-or-Treat Oct. 30 The Spooktacular Parade and Trunk-or-Treat will be held Tuesday, October 30. It is hosted by the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce. Parade begins at 6 pm at the walking track pavilion in Ackerman with the Trunk-or-Treat immediately following in the Main Street parking lot. Christmas Open House Nov. 8 Christmas Open House will be held Thursday, November 8. Hours will be set by each individual participating Chamber business with the Open House ending by 8 pm. If you are a Chamber member and would like to participate in Christmas Open House, please contact our office. If you would like to join the Chamber, please call 285-3778. Christmas Parade plans announced The Town of Ackerman would like to announce plans for the 2012 Christmas Parade. This year’s theme will be A Picture Perfect Christmas. It will be held in downtown Ackerman on Thursday, December 6, beginning at 6 p.m. Other information will follow in the weeks ahead.

Full Circle Knitting/Crocheting Group Location: Choctaw County Extension Office Full Circle Knitting/Crocheting group meets every Tuesday from 9 a.m.- Noon. Community Day Oct. 13 First Baptist Church of Longview is sponsoring Community Day on October 13 from noon-3 p.m. at the pavilion in downtown Ackerman (across from Pap’s Place). Join us for fellowship, fun, food, praise and worship a time of Thanksgiving.

5k Run/Walk Oct. 27 The “In His Hands Mission” 5k Run/Walk will be held October 27 at 8 a.m. in downtown Ackerman. The Ackerman Church of God Youth are sponsoring the 5k Run/Walk to raise funds for a mission trip to North Little Rock, Ark. All ages are encouraged to participate. $20 per person. Pre-register by October 21 to receive a free t-shirt. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. with race beginning at 8 a.m. at the pavilion across from Main Street in Ackerman. Enon C.P. Church Homecoming Nov. 4 Enon C.P. Church will celebrate their 2nd Annual Homecoming on Sunday, November 4. Services will begin at 10 a.m. with singing by the Southern Image quartet. Southern Image has been performing for approximately 15 years doing concerts with many well known artists throughout those years. Following the singing, Bro. Ray Latham, former pastor, will be bringing the morning message. A potluck meal will be served immediately after the worship service. Everyone is invited to come and share this special day.
