School board holds three executive sessions

Executive sessions were the main events in the Choctaw County School Board meeting on September 10. The board held three different executive sessions to discuss a student transfer request, embargoed state test results and staff.

The first executive session of the night was to discuss a request from Sheila Crimm, who was present at the meeting. After the meeting, Superintendent Glen Beard said her request was for a student transfer. After coming out executive session, the board said they voted 3-2 to deny her request.

The School Board immediately went back into executive session but this time to discuss test data or the state test scores that were embargoed at the time. No action was taken.

The final executive session was to discuss reorganization and staffing. The board entered into executive session after Kenny Clark, business manager, passed out copies of the financial report. After the meeting, Beard said no action was taken. Also in this meeting the School Board approved to renew a list of current 16 section leases and to cancel a 16 section lease that the rent has not been paid and after letters requesting payment have been sent.

The board also discussed and answered questions on the Legislative Survey for 2013.

In the consent agenda the board approved: CCCTC Design Technology for Fashion and Interiors to travel to FCCLA District meeting at MSU. AEST/Ackerman FFA to travel to Livestock Judging Career Development Event in Jackson. Attendance of administrators, principals and teachers to attend10 different workshops and conferences. Salary adjustment for Master’s degree for Patience Stacy. Salary corrections. Financial hardship waivers. School bus right-of-ways. Fundraiser request for AHS. Emergency operations plan agreement with Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw. Transition Consultant Contact bid. Request from Stacey Johnson, FCE principal, to purchase Promethean boards. Requests from teachers for their children to attend the schools where they work. Request for purchase of Academy of Reading. Correction to the high school discipline plan in handbook. Purchase of Academy of Math for WAC. Also in the consent agenda, the School Board approved the following Choctaw County School District personnel changes: James Middleton as a substitute pending paperwork and background check. Maternity leave for Lisa Pollard and Kylie Stanford. Tommy Ballard as long term substitute. Bethany Arnault to assume classroom duties while regular teacher is out for maternity leave. Morgan Scribner’s request to pay supplement insurance for a bus driver. Laura Hunt as long term substitute for Lisa Pollard. Request for FMLA for Shana Patterson. Medical leave under FMLA for Laurie Ward.

In the financial agenda the board approved: • Absentee report. • Docket of claims. • Teacher substitute report. • Financial statements. • Requests for fixed asset disposal.

The next regular scheduled board meeting will be October 8 at 7 p.m. at Central Office.
