After an open week, the French Camp Panthers are eager for round two of division play.
The Panthers played the McAdams Bulldogs on Sept. 7, in their first division game of the season. The French Camp offense exploded racking up 28 points in the first quarter, then tacking on another seven in both the second and third quarters and finishing the game with another six points in the fourth quarter. The Panther defense made a strong stand as French Camp shutout the Bulldogs 48-0.
The Panthers will go into Friday’s matchup with a 2-2 record overall and a 1-0 division record.
French Camp’s two losses of the season come from non-division play against the Class 2A Eupora Eagles and Ackerman Indians. The Panthers took a 20-10 loss from the Eagles and a 14-3 loss against the Indians. The additional Panther win came early in the season when French Camp squared off with county rival Weir. The Panthers routed the Lions 52-0.
The rested Panthers will be ready for action this Friday night. After hitting the road for three weeks straight, French Camp will host the Shaw Hawks this week.
The Panthers will have an offensive boost going into Friday’s game with presence of quarterback Jesse Hosket back on the field. Hosket made his first start this season in the Panthers’ victory over McAdams. Hosket had been absent from the Panthers’ first three games due to a pre-season injury. Hosket was 9-14 through the air on 123 yards with two touchdowns against the Bulldogs.
Last season, the Hawks took a close 12-6 win over the Panthers. However, French Camp has been busy prepping for a different outcome this season.
The Hawks have a 4-1 overall record and a 2-0 division record. Shaw recently defeated McAdams 62-0 last Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
