The Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Lara Bowman as their new Executive Director. Lara will begin fulfilling the role of Executive Director on October 1, 2012.
As Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, she will be responsible in assisting the local business community with their business related needs and exploring opportunities for growth and improvement. She will do this while planning community development events to encourage interaction between local businesses and Choctaw countians. Lara will also promote the County to local citizens, potential business and industry leaders and at the regional, state and national level.
“I am eager to get moved and to begin working with businesses and learning more about the needs for all of Choctaw County. From there I want to work closely with our community leaders to develop a comprehensive plan we can all get behind,” stated Lara when asked about her expectations for the new position.
“We are transitioning economic development as we have always known it,” stated Ron Bennett, newly elected President of the Economic Development Foundation Board of Directors.
“The duties will be split into job recruitment and the chamber of commerce. Nick Walters with Stone-Adams Financial Partners will continue to work on all the economic development projects he’s doing and Lara will be our full time chamber director right here in the county. And of course Donna McKay will continue on doing the great job she does.”
Stone-Adams’ previous employee, John Scott, took a position in Brunswick, Georgia.
Lara will be moving to Choctaw County from Gulfport, Miss., where she is currently employed with the Department of Navy as a Human Resources Specialist at Stennis Space Center. She has prior experience working with community organizations in her hometown of Poplarville, Miss.
“I love community development events and cannot wait to work with the Chamber of Commerce Board to plan exciting and rewarding events,” shared Lara.
Lara is a graduate of Mississippi State University where she received her Master of Business Administration with a minor in Economics and earned a Certificate in Economic Development. She also received her undergraduate degree from MSU, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations.
Stewart Edwards, president of French Camp Academy, served on the selection committee and said, “Lara is very qualified for this position and we feel she will bring energy and enthusiasm to the chamber of commerce. She will be a great addition to the county and the board is looking forward to working with her.”
Lara is married to Choctaw County native Trey Bowman, the son of Tommy and Tammie Bowman and grandson of Jack and Etoyle Bowman. The couple is looking forward to returning to Choctaw County and becoming active in the community. The Chamber of Commerce will host a welcome reception for Lara in the very near future. Her first project will be the annual economic development meeting on the 25th of October.
