Circuit Court finalizes calendar with sentencing

The August term of Circuit Court recently ended with many pleading guilty to their charges.

In the first week, the Grand Jury met and handed down one indictment. Percy Murphy was indicted on two counts of false pretense-bad check. He pled not guilty.

Also during Circuit Court the case against Autro Lopez Sanchez was continued.

The following are sentences handed down by Judge Joey Loper:

Randy Burton pled guilty to the charge of touching of a child for lustful purposes. He was sentenced to 15 years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Upon completion of five years, he will be placed on probation for the remaining 10 years. Also, within in three days of his release from custody, he must register with the Mississippi Department of Safety as stated in Miss. Code 45-33-25 (Registration of Sex Offenders).

Clinton J. Cook pled guilty to attempted motor vehicle theft. He was sentenced to 10 years with MDOC. After completing one day, he will be placed on probation for the remaining nine years and 364 days.

Tova Coffee aka Tova Parish pled guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced to 10 years with MDOC with the 10 years suspended for 10 years and will be placed on probation for five years.

Dwight Gipson was pled guilty to felony DUI and was sentenced to five years with MDOC. After completing one year and one day, will be placed on probation for the remaining three years and 364 days. Must pay a fine of $2,000.

Percy Taylor, Jr. pled guilty to felony DUI and was sentenced to five years with MDOC. After completing one year and one day, will be placed on probation for the remaining three years and 364 days. Must pay a fine of $2,000.
