Circuit Court sentencing, Jury report

The August term of Circuit Court has begun with Judge Joey Loper presiding over this term.

During the first week, the Grand Jury met on August 20 for one day and investigated two violations of law and questioned two witnesses. They returned into open court one true bill on one indictment.

Also in the first week, the following sentences were handed downy by Judge Loper:

Deon Dantzler charged with felony uttering forgery. He pled guilty to Count 1 and was sentenced to 10 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections with 10 years suspended for five years and probation for five years. Dantzler was also ordered to pay restitution of $2,050. Counts 2-6 were dismissed after he pled guilty to Count 1.

Leneshia Rogers charged with felony uttering forgery. She pled guilty to Count 1 and was sentenced to 10 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections with 10 years suspended for five years and probation for five years. She was also sentenced the same for Count 2 felony uttering forgery. Rogers was also ordered to pay restitution of $2,050. Count 3 and Count 4 were dismissed.

Brenda Potts was charged with two counts of identity theft. She pled guilty and an order of non-adjudication was made sentencing her to probation for three years. She was also ordered to pay restitution of $800.
