Doyle Smith to be in concert

Doyle Smith of Ardmore, Oklahoma, formerly of Choctaw County, will be in concert at Crossroads Baptist Church in Mathiston on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at 5 p.m.

Mr. Smith began his singing career locally with the Melody Boys Quartet in 1949. He left Choctaw County to pursue his lifelong dream to be a professional gospel singer. In August 1951, he began singing with the nationally known McDonald Brothers Quartet. In October of that same year, R.W. Blackwood recommended Smith to C.R. Melton of the All American Quartet. He traveled and sang with the All American Quartet for the next several years. In 1961, Smith relocated to California where he organized the Sounds of Joy. He continued to travel extensively and for many years.

In 1990, the Smiths retired to Ardmore, Oklahoma where Smith did solo work and evangelistic music for churches and revival meetings. He also worked with a very successful prison ministry.

Today, he continues to do solo work as well as speaking to different groups on various topics. Smith is presently minister of music at Brock Baptist Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
