Shane Burton was recently hired by the Choctaw County School District as the principal of Weir Attendance Center.
“I’m excited about being here (WAC). Weir has a lot of tradition and I’m glad to be a part of that. I’m part of the Weir family,” said Burton.
He, a Choctaw County native, comes to WAC from Louisville High School where he was assistant principal for one year. Before becoming LHS assistant principal, Burton taught and coached at Ackerman High School for 16 years.
“I’m excited about being back in the county. I’m glad to be back to contribute and help,” said Burton.
He looks forward to working with the parents and community members of Weir and encourages their support for the students and school.
After spending many years in the classroom, Burton was ready for a change and new challenge. He chose to further his career by entering educational administration.
“Opportunities are good in education. I was ready from something bigger and better,” said Burton about becoming a principal.
As principal, he describes himself as “very fair,” “believes in discipline” and “believes in holding students and teachers accountable.”
Burton is excited about the upcoming school year and the future.
“We-the administration, teachers and faculty-have been working very hard this summer to get the school ready for the coming year. We have good facilities here, we are cleaning up, getting the rooms ready,” said Burton.
He looks forward to the future at Weir Attendance Center also.
“I’m excited about the possibility of restructuring and having a county middle school here. I think it could be one of the best middle schools in the state,” said Burton.
He has many plans for the 2012-2013 school year and many more years after that. Burton is married to Vonda Burton, librarian at Eupora Elementary School and he has three children-Ethan, Noah and Jesse.
