Basic Cooking skills class for adults set

Adult cooking skills and nutrition education classes, perfect for newly marrieds, new parents, or anyone wanting to brush up on cooking skills and current nutrition topics will be held August 13, 14 and 15.

Program topics will include: Sharp Shopping, Smart Planning, Putting the fresh in your food, Freezer meals, Making baby food, Mixes that will save money and time (Master mix, Chili Mix, Cream soup mix, seasoning blends). Some things we will do: Discuss and MAKE cornbread from scratch (find out what I do to make mine moist and more nutritious and no one even notices the change!), demonstrate saute’ prep and cooking technique, make a time management plan, begin a personal cookbook folder, make salad dressing and dip from basic ingredients (no bottles or pouches allowed!).

They will also modify favorite recipes to be more nutritious for our family. All this and much more, in 3 days of hands-on 2 hr workshops about cooking techniques and practical skills for the cook who wants to provide the freshest, most nutritious meals for their family while saving money and time in the process. There is no charge for this workshop. Dates and times of programs are August 13, 14 and 15 at the Choctaw Extension Office from 10am-12:00 am. Deadline for sign-up is August 10. Seating is limited to six adults so call the Choctaw County Extension Office at 285-6337 to reserve your spot! Classes will be taught by Pam Awad, Extension Nutrition Education.
