GFWC-Mississippi Federation of Women’s Clubs Summer Institute was held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Schools For The Deaf and The Blind in Jackson. Ackerman 20th Century Clubwomen Susan Shurden, Sheila “Tinker” Forrester, Jeanith Burdine and Donna McKay attended the one day event.
Each clubwoman was encouraged to wear something red, white or blue to show support of GFWC-MFWC President’s Special Project “Honoring Past GIFTS while Celebrating the PRESENT…FREEDOM to Volunteer!” During this two year project we will honor our veterans and celebrate the bravery of those who currently serve in the United States of America military.
Each local club will lend support by conducting projects that show our veterans and current military how thankful we are for the sacrifices they have made and make for our FREEDOM.
Sheila “Tinker” Forrester, GFWC-MFWC Chaplain gave the devotion. Morning and afternoon sessions included topics such as Arts, Photography, Education, Conservation, International Outreach, Public Issues, Home Life, Advocates/Children, Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention, and much more. Jeanith Burdine served as a hostess in the hallway. Susan Shurden, MS LEADS Chairman presented a skit to open the afternoon session. The day ended with the clubwomen reciting the Collect.
