Sam G. “Luther” Ables June 20, 2012 Funeral services for Mr. Sam G. “Luther” Ables, 81, were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 24, 2012 at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman, MS. Rev. Jerry Lawson officiated. Burial followed in Enon Cemetery in Ackerman, MS.

A resident of Ackerman, Mr. Ables was a retired steel mill machinest and farmer. He also served in the US Army during the Korean War. Mr. Ables died June 20, 2012 at Winston Medical Center Nursing Home in Louisville, MS.

Survivors include sons, Luther Ables of Mathiston; Samuel Ables of Ackerman; daughters, Lily Crawford of Hollandale, MS; Sandra Newman of Ackerman; Deborah Wilson of Louisville, MS; and sister, Frances Bridges-Gravett of Arkansas.

Prentiss Earl Graham June 5, 2012 Funeral services for Mr. Prentiss Earl Graham, 69, were held at 1p.m., June 9, 2012 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Louisville, MS. Rev. Michael C. Taylor officiated. Burial followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Louisville, MS.

Mr. Graham was a native of Winston County. Mr. Graham died June 5, 2012 at Jeff Anderson Hospital in Meridian, MS. Survivors include wife, Essie Graham; daughter, Imogene Robertson; brother, Tony Curtis; and three sisters, Gloria Fulweiley, Edna Jaye Moore, and Polly Triplett.

Mr. Bruce Allen Baxter June 22, 2012 Funeral services for Mr. Bruce Allen Baxter, 55, were held at 11 a.m., June 25, 2012 at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman. Rev. Roger Griffith officiated. Burial followed at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery near Ackerman.

A resident of Sturgis, Mr. Baxter was a heavy equipment operator at North American Coal. He died Friday, June 22, 2012 at Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw in Ackerman.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn Middleton Baxter of Sturgis, mother Donnie Collins Baxter of Sturgis, son Jessie Baxter of Ackerman, step-son Eric Bazzill of Saltillo, daughter Kelly Baxter of Hendersonville, Tenn., brother Burney Baxter of Eupora, sister Shirley Forman of Columbus and four grandchildren.

Eleanor Mecklin Bishop June 23, 2012 Funeral services for Eleanor Mecklin Bishop, 86, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at French Camp Presbyterian Church.

A native of French Camp, Eleanor was active in Whitehaven Presbyterian Church until it closed and enjoyed attending Nesbit Presbyterian Church. She died at her home in Hernando, MS on June 23, 2012.

She leaves her two daughters, Rebecca Bishop (Chris) Wilson of Nashville, TN and Sandra Bishop Wampler of Nesbit, MS; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Don Mecklin and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Kaydence Rain McCool June 21, 2012 Funeral services for Kaydence Rain McCool, nine months and 29 days, were held at 2 p.m., June 25, 2012 at Ackerman Church of God in Ackerman. Rev. Greg Chamblee officiated. Burial followed at Harmony Baptist Church near McCool, MS.

Kaydence died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Pioneer Community Hospital of Choctaw in Ackerman. Survivors include her parents Nathan McCool and Kelley Peeples, maternal grandparents Roger and Lisa Peeples and paternal grandparents Chris and Candis Mayo McCool, all of Ackerman. Kaydence is also survived by a large extended family and numerous friends.

Mrs. Oreeve Young Stephenson Kalamazoo, MI

Mrs. Oreeve Young Stephenson, 95, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The daughter of Chares Henry Young and Virginia Breland. She was born on Monday, May 7, 1917 in Mathiston, MS. She was the fifth child of twelve in Choctaw County.

She married James B. Stephenson on May 6, 1939. They had 3 children, Nelson, Sandra and an infant son who passed away at birth. Her husband preceded her in death in May of 1985; and her son, Nelson passed away on March 27, 2004. Oreeve enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and caring for her family. She especially loved her flower garden and spent many hours creating and maintaining a beautiful park-like setting in her yard.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Stephenson of Kalamazoo, MI; a daughter-in-law, Debbie (Nelson) Stephenson of Kalamazoo, MI; 2 grandchildren, Robert (Sarah) Stephenson and Tamera (Tom) Byrnes; 3 great-grandchildren, Alex, Katie, and Ryan Stephenson all of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Helen Griffin of Raymond, MS and Virginia Dowdy of Columbus, MS; a sister-in-law, Doris Jean Young of Eupora and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Fellowship Baptist Church in Mathiston where she was a lifelong member and she was laid to rest in the church cemetery. Oliver Funeral Home of Eupora was in charge of arrangements.
