The Choctaw County School District will not restructure for the upcoming school year, 2012-2013.
Superintendent Glen Beard confirmed Friday, June 22, that the schools will not restructure for the upcoming school year.
“Choctaw County School District has received notification from the Department of Justice that they would require more information prior to making a decision concerning the restructuring of our schools. We are working to compile that information in a timely manner. As a result, we will not proceed with restructuring for the 2012-2013 school year. All school configuration will remain as they were during the 2011-2012 school year,” said Beard.
School Board accepts portable classrooms By Ellen Graves The Choctaw Plaindealer The Choctaw County School Board approved the acceptance of seven portable classroom units from the Ocean Springs School District in a special called meeting on June 20, 2012 at 6 p.m.
Superintendent Glen Beard stated that originally they thought seven portable units were needed but after further research only five were needed. The extra two portable units were approved to transfer to East Jasper School District.
The only cost for the portable units is the charge of transportation. Beard stated that the Ocean Springs School District needed to transport the portable units as quickly as possible to begin the transformation of turning one of Ocean Springs’ high schools into an elementary school.
The 6-year-old portable units will come equipped with furniture, 200 feet of covered walkways, bathrooms, air conditioning, and Internet access.
“We did our homework and one portable classroom unit is worth $60,000 by itself without any bells or whistles,” said Beard. “So we’re really excited to get all five at the transportation cost.”
The board voted unanimously to pass a resolution accepting the portable classroom units and a contract with New Path Strategy Consultants and other contractors for the move and setup of portable units at the school sites.
