Restructure plan approved by School Board

The Choctaw County School Board approved to restructure the school district in a 3-2 vote.

The motion to accept Proposal 1, contingent upon approval from the Department of Justice, was made by Mike Thomas with a second from Bertha Miller. School Board members voting to for the motion to accept Proposal 1 was Thomas, Miller and Linda McDaniel.

Derek Hunt and Clint Huffman voted against the motion.

With the approval of Proposal 1, the restructure of the Choctaw County School District will be as described below, after approval from the Department of Justice.

-Two elementary schools with Pre-K to 5th grades. One at Ackerman Elementary and the second at French Camp Elementary. -One county wide junior high school at Weir Attendance Center with grades 6th-8th grades. -One county wide high school at Ackerman High School with 9th-12th grades. The board highlighted the enrolled attendance at Weir Attendance Center and other factors at the meeting.
