JuneFest this weekend in Ackerman

Downtown Ackerman will be lined with vendors, crowds, vintage cars, and much more on Saturday, June 9 for the 5th Annual JuneFest.JuneFest is sponsored by the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce and other sponsors.

Get an early start for JuneFest with the 5K Run/Walk with registration beginning at 6:30 a.m. at the Walking Track in downtown Ackerman. Entry fee is $30. Post race snacks and beverages will be provided along with hydration stations along the race route. The 5K Run/Walk begins at 7:15 a.m.

Awards will be given to the top two finishers of each age group for male and female. First place cash awards will be given to the overall male and overall female winner. Results will be announced at 10 a.m. at the pavilion on Main Street.

This run is being sponsored by MSU Extension Choctaw County 4-H, Choctaw County Animal Shelter and the Choctaw County Chamber of Commerce.

The JuneFest Car Show begins at 8 a.m. at the Choctaw County Courthouse.

The Car Show, hosted by the Choctaw Cruisers, will include 36 classes of vintage vehicles dating from 1900 to 1985.

Make sure to stop by the Courthouse to enjoy the beautiful cars entered in the annual JuneFest Car Show.

By 9 a.m. everyone should be ready for the Pet Show registration with the show beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pets of all sizes, shapes and species are welcome. Numerous awards will be given including a Best of the Show. The 20th Century Club sponsors this event with proceeds going to the Choctaw County Library.

Throughout the day local entertainment take place at the pavilion in downtown Ackerman. Don’t forget your lawn chairs.

Main Street will be filled with many vendors with a wide variety of items with something for everyone beginning at 9 a.m.

Near the Walking Track will be Kids’ World with water slides and the Dunking Booth sponsored by the Ackerman Athletic Booster Club.

The Dunking Booth will feature teachers and coaches from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Get in line to dunk Suzanne Crowley, Amanda Carden, Gary Beals, Mike Brown, Adam Dillinger and a surprise guest.

Mouth watering food will be available from the food vendors ranging from snow cones to traditional favorites like funnel cakes and chicken-on-a-stick.

Beginning at 5 p.m. is the fan favorite Bingo at Pap’s Place. The 2Oth Century Club sponsors this annual event as their main fundraiser. Prizes include: home décor, cash, gift certificates and much more…too many to list!

JuneFest free entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m. with Candice Pitts of Mantachie opening for the 5th Annual JuneFest entertainment.

She has been entertaining audiences in and around the south for the past two decades.

Jason Miller, former lead singer of Crossin’ Dixon, will take the stage at the pavilion at 8 p.m. Rocking country will be heard throughout downtown Ackerman in the FREE concert.

Everyone is encouraged to come early, bring your chairs and kick back for a rockin’ country concert.

Jason was born and raised just minutes from Choctaw County in Sturgis. He knew his calling was to sing and perform the time he was a teenager. After many years as part of the Crossin’ Dixon, he announced his decision to go solo in March. Come out to the free concert as he launches his new project as old and new fans fall in love with his music.
