Candice Pitts of Mantachie will be the opening act for the 5th Annual JuneFest Saturday night entertainment.
Pitts will take stage at 6:30 p.m. on June 9 and perform until 7:15 p.m. in downtown Ackerman.
She has been entertaining audiences in and around the south for the past two decades.
Candice performed every summer from 1998 to 2002 at Libertyland Theme Park in Memphis, in the W.C. Handy Theatre R&B showcase.
As a member of University of Mississippi Women’s Glee Club (1998 to 1999), Candice traveled to Europe. Pitts also performed all over the southern U.S. as a member of the University of Memphis touring ensemble “Sound Fuzion” (1999-2002).
In 2008, Candice provided backup vocals for recording artist Paul Thorn’s album, Long Way From Tupelo, also performing several dates with The Paul Thorn Band around the south.
After moving back home to Mississippi, Candice assisted with worship vocals for the Orchard United Methodist Church in Tupelo from 2004 to 2011. Candice now assists with leading worship at First United Methodist Church in Tupelo as well as Crosswinds Ministries in Corinth.
She has studied all-around voice under Bob Westbrook of Germantown, Tenn. since the age of 11 and studied classical voice under Jennifer Robinson at the University of Mississippi.
Candice also studied jazz and blues vocal under Memphis jazz legend Joyce Cobb while at the University of Memphis.
