Dentistry From the Heart event a success

From Press & Staff Reports

Mitchell Dental Clinic in Ackerman recently held their annual Dentistry From The Heart event this past Monday for residents in need of dental work. The event, which has been held at Mitchell Dental Clinic for the past four years, gives citizens of Choctaw County an opportunity to receive dental work free of charge. Some of the services offered during this day were fillings, extractions, and cleanings. “Now more than ever, I know these are people out there that need my services, but have no means to afford them—whether they’re out of a job, or just don’t have dental insurance. Dentistry From The Heart is my way of giving back to the community, and helping people who are in need of dental work,” said Dr. David Mitchell. Mitchell Dental Clinic has helped almost 500 patients through the Dentistry From The Heart event, and was proud to add another 112 names to that list after Monday’s event. The event kicked off at 9 a.m., but there were people lined up waiting from the door of Mitchell’s all the way to the intersection of Main Street. The event did not get a full turnout, however, with only 112 of a possible 150 people receiving services. Volunteers and dentists from surrounding areas worked hard during the whole day to get patients in and out as quickly as possible. Lending a hand to the local staff for the day was Dr. John Griffin and his staff out of Columbus. Amanda Clark, Office Manager for Mitchell Dental, spoke on how the event went. “We were excited to see so many people come out,” said Clark. “Everything ran smooth. We had a lot of repeat faces, and we are glad to see them come back year after year. E also had some new faces.” The event has been a heaven sent to local residents who need the service. However, it has also been beneficial to the building of successful relationship between the community and Mitchell Dental. “Dr. Mitchell just thought this was a great way for us to give back to our community and it is actually one of the staff’s favorite days of the year,” said Clark. “We love doing the event.” Mitchell Dental would like to thank Subway of Ackerman and Los Encinos Mexican Restaurant for providing meals to the volunteers and a special thank you to Southern Belle for providing t-shirts for the past five years for this event.
