Medical Foundation annual meeting May 3 The Choctaw County Medical Foundation Annual Meeting will be Thursday, May 3 at 7 p.m. at the Choctaw County Community Center in Ackerman. At the meeting, members will have the opportunity to vote for positions on the Foundation Board of Directors. Refreshments will be served. Dues for current members and new members are $25 per individual. Dues can be sent to: Choctaw County Medical Foundation, P.O. Box 860, Ackerman, MS 39735. National Day of Prayer May 3 The National Day of Prayer will be observed Thursday, May 3rd at noon, at the Choctaw County Courthouse to pray for our nation and leaders. Everyone is invited to attend. Dentistry from the Heart May 4, 8 a.m. Dr. David Mitchell and staff will be hosting their 5th annual Dentistry From The Heart event on May 4 at 8 a.m. This is a day that Dr. Mitchell and his staff can give back to the community by doing FREE dental x-rays, exams, extractions, fillings, and cleanings for those who can’t afford dental services. Limited to the first 150 patients age 18 or older. For more information call 662-285-9244. Clear Springs/Double Springs Memorial May 5 The Clear Springs/Double Springs Memorial will be held May 5 at 10:45 a.m. Rev. Gene O’Brian will deliver the message. A potluck meal will b shared at noon. Afternoon singing begins at 1 p.m. and will be led by Howard Cooper. The church is located on Maben Sturgis Road. Biggers-Trussell Reunion May 6 All family and friends are invited to the Biggers-Trussell Reunion on Saturday, May 6 at 1 p.m. at the old Biggers Home at 4180 Chester- Tomnolen Road, Eupora. Please bring a potluck dish. For more information call 706-464-6870. Talent Show at WAC May 5 Weir Attendance Center will be hosting a Talent Show on Friday, May 11 at 6 PM. There will be a catfish and chicken dinner from 4:30-6:30 PM. Dinners are $7 and admittance is $2. All proceeds go toward purchasing music and sound equipment for the school music program. Greensboro Historical Marker dedication May 12 Old Choctaw County Chapter, NSDAR, cordially invites everyone to a dedication ceremony for a historical marker at Greensboro, the first county seat of the original Choctaw County, thus giving our chapter it’s name. The town of Greensboro disappeared long ago leaving behind a cemetery and colorful history to mark its passing. The ceremony will be held at the newly constructed Chapel at Greensboro Cemetery on Saturday, May 12 at 1:30 pm. Pioneer Day May 12 Features square dancing, artists, craft demonstrators, pony rides, crosscut saw competition, petting zoo, self-guided boardwalk tours, and door prizes. Bluegrass concert at 1:30 with Southern Flair, The Russell Burton Family, Uncle Pug’s Bluegrass Band, and special guest, Alan Sibley. WAC Spring Concert May 14 Weir Attendance Center will be having a Spring Concert on Monday, May 14 at 6 PM. Admittance is $2. All proceeds go toward purchasing music and sound equipment for the school music program. Farmers Market to kick off June 9th at JuneFest Registration deadline May 21 The newly organized Choctaw County Farmers Market will be open Saturday, June 9 at 9 am at JuneFest. The market will offer a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables in a festive atmosphere. After JuneFest, the market will be open 2nd & 4th Fridays from 3 pm-7pm at the walking track on the corner of Main Street and Commerce Street in Ackerman. Dates are: June 22, July 13 and 27, August 10 and 24. At least one vendor will accept EBT cards. There is no fee to sell fruits and/or vegetables. Full Circle Knitting/Crocheting Group Location: Choctaw County Extension Office Full Circle Knitting/Crocheting group meets every Tuesday from 9 a.m.- Noon. Beginners through experts are invited to attend. Bring your needles and yarn. Want to help out with a community service project, but can’t attend? Contact us at 285-6337 for other ways you can help. Yarn Spinners Book Club Location: Choctaw County Extension Office. Yarn Spinners Book Club meets the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 AM until Noon. For more information, call 285-6337. French Camp Historic Highlites The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 8, with lunch and speaker Dot Ward. Lunch will be catered and served at noon for a $2 donation. (RSVP is helpful, please call and leave a message at 662.547.6520) Speaker Dot Ward will talk about “Through It All” – her 30 plus years of teaching at French Camp, 3rd Grade through High School.
